What a thrilling race from start to finish!

Congratulations to Jenson Button on winning his first race in his career. His only threat was Alonso but once he retired Button was far ahead of the rest. Pedro de la Rosa did well finishing seconds while Nick Heidfeld made the podium.
Rubens Barrichello took 4th ahead of David Coulthard and Ralf Schumacher.
Robert Kubica finished 7th and in the points in his first ever race and Felipe Massa made the top 8.

There were some great drives from a number of drivers including Button, de la Rosa, Michael and Alonso.

Bad luck for Alonso, but I bet Schumacher was livid too. A race they'll both wish to forget. Great race though. Pedro drove well and kubica looks promising.

Indeed it was a fun race contrary to all those jokes about Hungarian Grands Prix being boring cuz of little to no passing opportunities. In fact there were more battles for position than most other races to date in 06 season.

Anyway, I enjoyed the race throughout. Here's my 2 cents:
* Pity that Kimi crashed out, was Klien having a mechanical problem there or just trying to stay out of the way?
* Congrats to Button although I doubt if he could have scored the win if Schumi were on dry tires after pit #2. Still he didn't lose his cool and hung in there
* Thumbs up for DeLa Rosa for trying real hard and never quitting. Such drivers spice up the races
* Another congrats fly out to Kubica. If he keeps up the good work that fella is gonna get somewhere soon. JV won't sleep easy tonight
* What's up with Williams anyway? Their reliability is so low, the bets go like "how many laps can they go before blowing up?" anymore
* Biggest disappointment of the day must be Massa. Despite the fact that he got the fastest lap under his belt
* All things considered Alonso must be THE luckiest guy on the planet today. He was as good as expected of a defending champion
* Driver of the day: A three way tie between MS (be as it may he's still darn fast), DeLa Rosa (always fun to see him drive), Kubica (for scoring points in his maiden race)

Now to wait for three weeks until the next race...

But yeah, great racing.....that was one of, if not the best race of the
season....
I even ended up watching the repeat at 6pm Whoever said you cant pass in Hungary must've been completely and utterly .......

I enjoyed watching Fonzi and Shumi duke it out in the opening stages, however brief...

Even if it werent for Alonso's incident, I still think Button would have come through to take the win.......
Although my driver of the day goes to Kubica..........two spins, and loss of a nose cone, and he still managed to finish in the points!

When Jensie crossed the finish line in first, I think it was the loudest I have ever heard James Allen scream....

Kubica has been disqualified! apparently his car was 2kg under weight at the end of the race this promotes Massa to 7th and Schuey to 8th valuable points for the constructors championship and now Schuey is only one race win away from Fernando.

It was me. I am the fool who called it the HungBoring! Have to agree with those who found the race among the best of the year!! First, to give proper credit, Fernando was BRILLIANT in the wet. When I tuned in for the GP2 race I was all in expectation of another brilliant Michael performance. And Micheal turned in one; it's just that even he would have to admit that Fernando doesn't have anything to learn from him!

When Fernando spun off, I was, momentarily, thrilled because of the big points swing in the offing in the championship points. But when Michael tried to save p2 by cutting a corner, I was properly steamed. Where were the #@% so-called "stewards"?! Had they already left town out of fear for their very lives?! To put the fastest cars in mid-field as penalties for "dangerous driving" smacks of the famous old "killing for peace" logic.

Take a letter Mr. Mosely: your so-called association needs to remove its stewards' heads from a base portion of their anatomy. If they are indeed, free to assign whatever penalty they deem appropriate, why not let them subtract some championship points from the offending drivers and let the race proceed as it deserved to?!? That is, safely and with due respect to the drivers' talents and their crews' hard work.

I hereby submit my application to be the "Chief Visiting Steward" for the FIA at all races. I don't need a salary. Just a pit pass and airline & hotel tickets. My duty will be simple: oversee the idiot stewards and re-write their "sanctions" as I see fit. They can lodge their complaints about my high-handedness to the governing body, but I promise never to have either the drivers or the fans mad at me.

Do you see what I'm driving at here? They don't give a broken drive shaft for either the opinions or thoughts of the drivers OR the fans. Who do they work for then? The money mongers. Somebody (do something drastic) to [NAME INSERTED HERE BY THOSE WHO FOLLOW F1 RACING]!!

finally, since the whole thing WAS a mess, it was fitting that poor Jense be finally rewarded, was it not. And especially sweet for him was his embarrassing his so-called hot shot team mate.

So now my rank in the pole N' 8 must be sliding into the fifth century!

I'm going to continue, though, to pick Fernando to win --until somebody offers me some serious money to change it!


Oh, and Ed. Like you, I'm looking for a nice quiet room to lie down in!

Good to see Button take the win. I have always been a critic, however I do so enjoy eating my words. He obviously benefitted from others retirements, but you do have to be the right person at the right place to win.

Hopefully this will give him a moral boost and he can put in some great GP drives.

I have to take issue with you there Rah Jenson was on it from start to finish. The lap times he was turning in were faster than everybody elses throughout all the critical phases of the race. I was watching the live timing on the official FIA website, and although Alonso drove a stupendous race he was not going to beat Jenson, Michael drove exceptionally well when he wasn't spinning off or blocking other drivers. Kimi was a spent force before he drove into the back of Luizzi! De La Rosa was on him and Jenson with the same fuel from fourteenth on the grid was hunting him down too. I really think you ought to watch the Live Timing during a race as it gives far greater depth and clarity to the GP experience.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I was watching the live timing and was very impressed with his speed. But I do not think he was definately going to win. I think Alonso had another chance for sure. When he came out of the pits Jenson still had to go back in.

I concurr with everything you said here, Ed. Thanks for a bang up job with the minute by minute. It was nearly as exciting as watching the race itself which I was unable to do today. Cheers, mate!!

Alonso is the man!!! Would have won it without losing that wheel nut.


PDLR deserves to stay in the driver's seat at McLaren next year.
