Michelin have accepted that they stuffed up. You cannot put bridgestone tyres on a car designed for michelin without major suspension changes and 1000s kms testing

Considering what happened sunday, it was at least worth a shot. Besides, what if(hypothetically) the FIA prohibits Michelin from supplying tires to Formula 1 for the rest of the year? Those 7 teams' would be forced to used Bridgestones', which doesn't seem like an attractive option to anyone, but who knows what will happen?

Whilst the idea of fitting Bridgestone tyres to the Michelin teams sounds like a simple workable idea - even if we are to assume that Bridgestone had enough tyres to supply all 20 cars (which was unlikely). The idea isn't possible for two reasons:

Bridgestone would not be willing to give their tyres to the Michelin teams for obvious reasons

The Michelin teams would have major problems adapting their cars on such short notice to a completely different tyre that they don't understand.

Such is the difference between the tyres at this level that a team switching tyres at the start of the season is considered to be at a disadvatnage for the first few races of the season.

Points taken, Ed. It was an intriguing thought, though, but I'll defer to you on this one. It would've been a disadvantage for the Michelin teams, but in hindsight, it probably wouldn't have been feasible at all.

I don't think it is possible for the FIA to ban Michelin as there is no contract between the two. Even if they are told to leave, tyre companies need to give notice by the 1st of January if they are to pull out the following year.

Michelin will not stuff up again, at least this year. Their teams cannot afford to give away more points and that will ensure Michelin will not get it wrong again.

Having said that, Bernie Ecclestone seems keen on pushing the idea of a single tyre supplier next year and that was prior to the events at the US GP!

I imagine Bernie will enjoy the " bidding" from the tyre compamies for the contract.
