My read on that is that Sir Frank must have some big sponsorship deal in the pipeline that is dependant on Button joining the team which is worth a lot more, because 22mil buys a lot of cosworth engines. It sure as hell is nothing to do with Buttons ability or lack of. 8)
Somewhere I missed why those sponsors would want Button in the seat if it has NOTHING to do with his ability  ?

Apart from a certain cricket team  the english are a tad short of sporting heroes. Given that they think they invented F1, never mind those "furriners" across"the chunnel", an Englishman in F1 is worth billions in marketability, especially if said Englishman is in an English team :maths:

There is Anthony Davidson dying for a drive. I don't see the British teams jumping to sign him ?
There is David Coulthard who moved from McLaren (British) to Red Bull (Swiss)

Nah, not convinced it has NOTHING to do with abilty :D

I am sure that it has something to do with his ability and something to do with him being a pom.

As for the pom thing, you have heard the commentary so you know what they are like.

If Davidson makes in to a regular drive, he will be marketable. Coulthard is a Scot.

F1racing has annouced that Button will be staying at BAR-Honda for a payment of 25 million pounds to Williams. Williams is expected to announce details early next week.
Sato has to find another drive, or stay at Bar as a test driver. Anthony Davidson, according to them, has been linked with Midland.

this sunday button will have to prove to the world that he is indeed one of the best racers... i guess he will try as hard as he can to make it to the podium.. but do u think he can make it? he is inconsistent in his performance...

about 2 weeks ago.. the press fawned him with praises.. making him "BIG-HEAD!" well, is button under pressure to do as what the press had stated? being one of the best racers?? Will he keep up with the high standards that the press had said about him??
