:weird:

I've just carefully scrolled through the thread wherein are to be found the best guesses as to the conclusion of the race in the desert this week end (after what seems like, to me, about 40 years of wandering in the desert :D)

At first I thought there must be something going around that I didn't know about; so many of you were picking the Webbo to win   Like maybe there was some kind of secret Cosworth ju ju hidden from the rest of the field? Now I have to say that my connections over in the racing shops on Georgetown Road here in Indy have all said that the CW was going to lay out some of the biggies in F1 this year. And I have to add that no one is a bigger fan of Sir Frank than meself. But what you have to remember is that there is a bottomless bag of excuses from which drivers may choose and MW has only begun to dip into it!

Then I remembered! my "NewsonF1 sticker which flies so proudly across the top of me windshield comes from Ozzie land. And the Marko is an Ozzie, too. No wonder.

Well, chaps, good luck. But I expect the Rossberg kid to out qualify and out race the Mark. Maybe I'll be wrong, though. I was almost all of last year, remember!

enough prelude. here's me picks & reasons:

1. Juan Pablo (because he's got NADA to lose and the WC to win! He'll out muscle and out corner and out perform them all -- or fail to finish after taking out the leader!) P.S. Don't worry about the Merc; that was LAST year

2. Michael Schumacher (because Michael loves to race and his car is a red one)

3. Fernando (because he never gives up ... and he wants to bedevil Kimi)

4. Kimi (because he always starts the year in a completely unexpected way! ... The car will run fine. Kimi will be fast. And there will be a slue of articles about whether or not last year's contest demoralized him. Not to worry, though, the Iceman will get his WC this year.)

5. Jarno Trulli (because he is a racer [Ralph will tangle up with someone before the tenth lap; you read it here on the 8th of March!])

6. Nick Heidfeld (because he wants more points this year!)

7. David Coulthard (because he has something to prove)

8. N. Rossberg (because the Cosworth is for real ... and when they get the aero fixed, this kid [he's the real thing, too!] is going to make the BMW guys think about pulling out of the sport for a while!)

Pole: Michael Schumacher (because it's a different set of rules this year; the kind the old master thrives on)

So cheers, Chaps and here's to a season with AT LEAST FIVE different marques taking the top step on the podium this year. Actually, I'm hoping for SIX: Renault, natch; McLaren & Ferrari, ditto; Williams, Toyota (at last!) and Honda (but not with J.B. That curse must have been laid by Marie LeVaux down in New Orleans!)

Jim,
There are 48 QANTAS 747s heading your way, they seem to be mostly filled with blokes who
1. wish to place some wagers with you re Nico & Mark.
2. vigorously debate the respective merits of Nico & Mark
3. Both.

Hi Jim

I have to take issue with your Picks I'm afraid :duel: They appear to be even less rational than our Antipodean friends. JPM could possibly win this race though in testing he has not shown that kind of form. Fernando has been ina league of his own with Fisci hot on his heels. And the Honda does appear to be very quick particularly in the hads of Antony Davidson. It went a second faster than the Mclaren at Valencia. To ignore all these facts is reckless and it troubles me greatly  If you want to win 8'n'Pole your gonna have to pay some head to the form book, otherwise your just not entering into the sport of it

I would also like to point out that you have posted identical posts is this for emphasis?

Good luck Jim

I simply cannot understand why Honda persist with the Bellybutton when Davo is obviously quicker.

It doesn't make any sense at all but Jenson is extremely marketable in the UK and Antony (Which is a very good name indeed) isn't that well known
