Firestone engineers, meanwhile, are reporting to race control that the tires are wearing "quite nicely", to quote Firestone's Joe Barbieri; don't be surprised to see teams do fuel-only stops towards the end of the race.

CAUTION'S OUT! CAUTION'S OUT!
Franchitti in the wall; looks like around turn 3.........looks like he was beginning to exit the track to head for pitlane, tried to get back ontrack, hit the brakes and slid right up the track into the wall.............

Dixon caught a break, pitting before the caution.....on the other hand, Briscoe arrived on pitlane just as the pitlane closed; he had to take a wave-around and come back in for his stop........
