I agree with you that we are lucky to be able to eat better food than that. However I do believe that if money is tight there are cheaper healthier alternatives than SPAM. The humble potato being one example. With a couple of potatoes one can do so many things, and much cheaper than a can of spam.

These guys dont know their 5x tables, they haven't a hope of doing a budget.They see a can of spam, corned beef etc, as a healthy alternative to Mackas, and get it with the "5 finger discount".One girl last week was very proud that she stole an apple instead of chocolate. :roll:

1937 sounds about right. Some of the elderly folks in my family remember eating Spam during the war.
