That'd be correct, kapel. Best prognosis would be that da Matta has a recovery similar to that of Roberto Guerrero back around 1987; Guerrero was tire testing at the Brickyard when the right-front tire suffered a failure; when he crashed into the turn-2 outside wall, the tire came up and nailed him in the head. Guerrero spent three weeks in an Indy hospital in a coma, but recovered fully from his injuries and six months later came d--- close to winning the CART race on the 1-mile oval in Phoenix(apologies for the above language......Kapel wrote:News on Da Matta is that though he's still in the ICU...he's improving steadily & responding to treatment

Update.Com is reporting that he is not responding to commands or doing anything. That may not be as grim as it sounds, but he is not out of the woods just yet. Let's all pray for a full recovery for Cristiano.mlittle wrote:That'd be correct, kapel. Good news, though, is that he is recovering.

I am praying for him and his family. It must be hard for those who know and love him to see this happening and not knowing what the outcome will be. My heart aches for them all.RE30B#16 wrote:Update.Com is reporting that he is not responding to commands or doing anything. Aug.17 (GMM) Veteran of 28 grands prix and 13 points, former Toyota driver Cristiano da Matta, is still in a coma but 'improving' after his horror collision with a deer whilst testing his Champ Car earlier this month.
The American open-wheeler series' doctor, Chris Pinderski, provided an update to the media on Wednesday, in which a statement explained that da Matta, 32, 'has not yet fully regained consciousness'.
But he also said about the diminutive Brazilian: ''(da Matta) is becoming more alert each day.''
Indeed, a ventilator has been switched off and Pinderski reports that Cristiano may be soon moved out of intensive care at a hospital in Wisconsin (US).

Now THAT is great news. Ventilators are awful.... necessary but not pleasant.gkaytaz wrote:jacfan wrote: I am praying for him and his family. It must be hard for those who know and love him to see this happening and not knowing what the outcome will be. My heart aches for them all.

Da Matta out of intensive care.
According to F1 Racing Da Matta is now out of intensive care but is still not completely conscious, responsive or able to speak.
They go on to say that he is improving each day and they are now looking at long term rehab for him.
