In case anyone's at Surfers Paradise, the new Panoz DP01 is taking a few laps around the track at present; that is the car that will be replacing the venerable Lola B2K starting in 2007

Quick qual. primer......

~~as in the first qual. session, each driver gets 15 laps to post their fastest time; any driver causing a red flag situation will lose their fastest time
~~in winning the provisional pole yesterday, Will Power automatically gets a front-row starting spot and can start no worse than 2nd for Sunday's Lexmark Indy 300
~~expect the drivers to break the 15 laps they can run in the session into wither 2 7-8 lap segments OR 3 5-lap segments

SeaBass on a flyer; he now moves to P2 in the session(3rd on the combined)

It appears by the video feeds that most of the cars on-track are currently using the red-walled Bridgestone Potenza tires; these are softer tires than the regular black-walled Bridgestone.......the "reds" have more grip and conversely, are not quite as durable

18 minutes left in the session

Tracy still P1 for the moment; Junquiera, Bourdais, Dominguez and Ranger round out the top-5 so far; highest running rookie in the session is the RuSport #10 of Oz native Ryan Briscoe, who is making his ChampCar debut in place of the recovering Cristiano da Matta

RED FLAG! RED FLAG! Race control reporting a car has crashed at turn 2.....it's Bourdais! The current points leader has smacked the inside of the chicane at turn 2.....there are looks fo dejection in the McDonald's pitcrew

Apparently, SeaBass tried to cut the chicane's middle section too close, hit the tire stack, lost the front end and......klablammo! right into the wall....

Tagliani 1:32.845 sec

The long red flag period may have thrown some of these cars out of whack; several have short-cut the chicanes on both sides of the track

Dominguez jumps back up to P5 w/a 1:33.012 sec time

3 minutes left in the session........
