Takuma Sato retrograded 10 places in next GP

Post by jido » Mon Jun 18, 2007 9:07 pm

What do you think of Taku's sanction?
Sato's rapid forward progress was questioned by the race Stewards, who on the 11th lap reported that he was under investigation for overtaking another car under yellow flags. Sato later denied he committed a rule infraction, though he readily admitted the driving error that put him into a Turn 4 gravel trap and out of the race on an unlucky lap 13.
Since he could not do his pass-through penalty he will be retrograded in next race...

Considering he didn't finish the race, I do find it a bit harsh.

Seems a tad harsh yes... But then rules should be applied to all drivers equally (before anyone flames; remember I said "should"). Passing under a yellow flag means a penalty. That penalty practically puts Sato in the last spot unless someone has an engine failure. Pity, I like his aggressive style :)

So if he makes it out of the sand trap, performs the drive through, everything is ok?
