San Marino Results (BAR Penalised - Won't Appeal!)

The San Marino results are being appealed by Toyota and the FIA

By Toyota to try and reverse the 25 second penalty applied to Ralf Schuamcher for an unsafe manoeuvre in the pits

And by the FIA to try and reverse a decision by their Stewards not to take action against car No 3 (Jenson Button) after it was found to be underweight.

If Button is disqualified and Ralf's penalty stands the top 8 results for San Marino would become:

F Alonso
M Schumacher
A Wurz
T Sato
J Villeneuve
J Trulli
N Heidfeld
M Webber

The appeal is expected to be heard on the 4th of May.

More on Ralf's penalty here and on the FIA's appeal here

I haven't seen the Ralf - Nick incident so I don't know the severtity but something similar has happened in the past without penalty.

The Button car, well I think it is a first to see the FIA appealing against their own stewards. I don't think there is any reason to believe the stewards aren't credible. It is just Max wants to stuff up the teams. This could get nasty!

Not taking BAR's side but I wonder how many cars finish the race underweight after draining all the fuel!!

I'm sure all the car are checked after the race, atleast the top 3 and mayb other are randomly checked.

I thought I'd clarify a few things regarding Button's car here as there have been many rumours floating around;

The issue is the car being underweight and not about the car being illegal from other aspects.

The car was actually over the 600 kg minimum, only when drained of fuel did it drop below 600 kg. It is believed that the team proved to the stewards that the car was at all times during the race above the minimum (something that isn't too hard to prove given the massive amount of data available). 6 hours later the car was cleared.

There are so many rumours around you'd be excused to think BAR Honda may be thrown out of the championship. Let me tell you that is all absolute rubbish.

The car in question is Button's car and not Sato's car. They'll either clear it or decide on a penalty which usually in the case of a car being underweight is disqualification. Matter closed. Sato result isn't under question in this case.
Think about it, had the stewards found something illegal on Button's car why would they give it the all clear.

We'll know next Wednesday but I'd be surprised if Button's car is disqualified.

I've just read some comments on another site stating that the penalty could be throwing BAR out of the championship
I agree with Ed, that is rubbish!

I remember a Prost being disqualifed a few years ago after the car was found to be underweight. Basically the next race they make sure they have enough ballast.

Even if the FIA want to score political points here, I can't see how they can do more harm to BAR than to exclude Button from the result.

It looks like we'll have a great season so lets hope it isn't ruined by the politics.

Thanks Ed.

It would be sad if BAR is expelled from the championship(like some websites quote). They have done their bit to come back in a way, mayb not to their liking but a respectable comeback finishing both the cars without any BBQ

If Button's car is found underweight, the max penalty should be race disqualification or mayb grid slot penalty.

N yes Graham, i agree with u that this looks like a politically motivated move by that twit Mosely, just to get back at the "group of nine teams".

The season is shaping up well,Ferrari-Mclaren-BAR showing some good pace and mayb they'll catch up with Renault. :D
We are going to see some interesting races from now on,Lets enjoy it

Do not underestimate the damage Moseley and his ilk are prepared to wreak to the championship for their own motives
