A strong drive by Valentino Rossi saw him win the MotoGP of France after starting from 4th. Jorge Lorenzo starting from 5th and still on crutches also had a strong race finishing second. Colin Edwards was 4th while Pole setter Dani Pedrosa finished 4th.

Casey Stoner having led the race early dropped behind Rossi and Pedrosa but then had a mechanical problem and dropped further back.
