Bernie's Advice to Jense!

Cheers Mates!
I couldn't pass up the inimitable Mr. E.'s latest manifestation of his fantastic indifference to motor sport.
Of course, one can't be surprised by anything said or done by one who has recently suggested that F1 would be 'improved' by awarding gold, silver, and bronze medals to the podium finishers (couldn't he at least have come up with something original?

Like "Ferrari" Red (the classic color, prior to Marlboro); "British Racing" Green and "Renault" Bleu?!
But, never mind, now Mr. E. clearly reveals that F1 is nothing more than a cash machine to him by counseling Jensen Button to 'sit out' a year because he hasn't a chance in a 'non-competitive' car!
So he is either admitting that, for him, half the teams are only there to provide moving chicanes or advertising hoarding, or he feels that drivers make very little difference until they find themselves suitable machines.
Hello! Has he ever heard of Nige? Or Senna? Or... well, never mind; you get the point: Ecclestone thinks we fans are only interested in who wins (or gets the golden nod from Mr. Big Shot).
Oh, and I guess he was sleeping through the Italian G.P. last year!
It can't be soon enough for F1 to dump this sleazy advertising hack --and find someone to lead it who loves racing more than money.

Thanks, Gho Gho & Jacfan! I hope we can get a real sportsman to represent F1 to the world, but this person has to be someone who can stand the sharp elbows and the constant pressure that goes with leadership in our highly competitive sport. Also we need someone who will put drivers and team members first and manufacturers and sponsors second.
I can think of at least three names that would be universally respected: a German, and a couple of Englishmen. And if I gave it even more thought, I'll bet three or four more would come to mind.
Personally, I would love to see a certain Irishman, independent team leader, head the FIA. But Eddie Jordan has too many enemies, I fear.

& Amen to Paul Stoddardt, Julian!
If we had him as head of F.I.A. and Eddie took Bernie's place, we'd have RACING back. F1 would be governed by RACERS for RACERS and there would be no more problems about 'points' and whether or not to overtake because it would be all about RACING to the finish line!
Oh, yes, and we'd get the Australian G.P. back ... and the Canadian... and Spa ... and Silverstone ... and maybe even Indy! And there would be a ban on any more than three Herman Tilke BORING rings a year. Maybe we could even cut down some trees, lay in some runoff gravel and get back on the REAL Nurburgring!
Just dreaming away in the January snow!

Keep the dream alive, Jim................................one never knows........

. Mind you, were you to put pen to paper with those thoughts, you might single handedly create a ground swell of piblic opinion........and pass away the frigid months a tad more quickly.......
