Was surprised not to see any comments on here but the dream for many seems to come true.

It looks extremely like for MICHAEL to be back on the grid with Mercedes GP.....

I for one hope he comes back as good as ever....

The rumours have been flying ever since Mercedes bought Brawn and Button joined McLaren and it now looks a near certainty. One wonders though what are they waiting for ? Is Michael hesitating ? Is he not 100% ?

If he does make a comeback, next season will probably be one of the most anticipated seasons for a very long time. We have two World Champions at McLaren, we have a double World Champion at Ferrari alongside Massa, we have one of the most promising drivers in Sebastian Vettel and we have a 7 time World Champion coming back after 3 seasons and will be alongside a very quick Nico Rosberg.

Two concerns though, is Michael as good as he was at his peak ? Or is it just the urge to comeback with a German team ?
And is Mercedes going to give him a car that can win races ? The Brawn went from mile ahead at the start of the season to the 3rd fastest car by the end of the season.

I guess lets wait and see

:D Greetings Chaps & Season's Greetings too. I think, after so much bad F1 news, it's great for F1 that Michael has finally taken the seat next to Nico (I still find it crazy to know there are THREE new teams next year and it's almost January and not all the drivers are even announced yet!). It's hard luck that quick nick H. has been stranded again. But that's just another reminder of how cruel F1 is for drivers and how important it is to be lucky.

I will miss Kimi next year and I am hoping that SOMETHING good happens to the Renault team (I NEVER thought I would be cheering for the French team, but with Robert K., another favorite of mine, I have to be hoping for a BIG turnaround for them. As I type this I realize I am completely in the dark about who will be driving for Peter Sauber, but I hope that team, too, is competitive next year.

Now, for me, the funny thing is that tho' I cannot and never could claim to be a tifosi, I always want to see red at the sharp end of the grid. With Fernando and Felipe it will be GREAT to watch the qualifications and racing next year: just think, if Ferrari can deliver something besides a truck; if Red Bull continues its charge; if McLaren, with two WDC's in their team can start competitively instead of waiting till the sixth or seventh race, and if Ross Braun can continue his magic with Michael --why we may see a return to the glory days of yore!

Cheers  friends and here's to a great season ahead!

While I would never consider myself a huge fan of Michael Schumacher, I am excited at the prospect of his return to Formula 1.

As I have posted elsewhere, I believe his stiffest competition will come from Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, and Sebastien Vettel. If car performance is in their favor, add Felipe Massa, Robert Kubica, Mark Webber and Nick Heidfeld to this list. I don't see either Jenson Button or Rubens Barrichello giving Schuey a hard time unless their cars are far superior to his. X factors are Nico Rosberg or the rejuvenated Giancarlo Fisichella (yea, him!).

I know it is off thread, but I would love to see Pedro delaRosa in a competitive car in 2010 as well. He is very underrated even at this age. He is kinda like Nicola Larini or Mika Salo. Given a decent car for an entire season, these guys perhaps could've won a WDC beating some of the top guys who did.

I think there will be some bent machinery. Drivers who have copped the elbows out from Schuey in the past and are now in good cars will relish the opportunity to repay the compliment. I still enjoy the memory of MW going around the outside of MS, who had the elbows waaaaay out at the time. 8)
