The race stewards have decided to penalise Michael Schumacher for overtaking Alonso at the last turn in breach of article 40.13 of the sporting regulations. Schumacher was handed a 20 second time penalty added to his time in lieu of a drive through.

This drops Michael to 12th and puts Alonso back in 6th place ahead of Rosberg, Sutil, Liuzzi and Buemi.

Article 40.13 of the sporting regulations states:

If the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking

The Mercedes team disagrees on this ruling and are appealing the decision even though the penalty cannot be overturned as it is in lieu of a drive through penallty.

Ross Brawn said:
With regard to the penalty given to Michael, we believed that the track had gone green and the race was not finishing under a safety car when article 40.13 clearly would have applied. The reason for the safety car had been removed, the FIA had announced 'Safety Car in this lap' early on lap 78 and the track had been declared clear by race control. This was further endorsed when the marshals showed green flags and lights after safety car line one. On previous occasions when it has been necessary to complete a race under a safety car, full course yellows are maintained, as in Melbourne 2009. On the last lap, we therefore advised our drivers that they should race to the line and Michael made his move on Fernando for sixth place. We have appealed the decision of the stewards

Hello sgd, good to hear from you after all this time

We also would like to congratulate Webber on a dominating win. He now leads the championship as well and in the last 2 races has shown that he is a serious contender for the title.

This must be the only track where a processional race is not boring.

DOT. Kubica & Webbo.
Kubica for keeping that tyre together and still pressing Vettel.
Webbo for the "Cool hand Luke" drive, all weekend.
Dummy spit award. The Barra, throwing that steering wheel onto the road was bloody dangerous.
The "Still Running Away" award. Button's mechanic who left the radiator blank in.

I'm back too!!!!

Geez what a difference a week makes....After China I was ready to give up on MW, now he is looking a sh*tload quicker than SV (who I thought was the quickest driver on the grid).

Great drive from Webber, I didn't expect him to have 2 excellent races in a row. Well done and I think Vettel is a bit rattled now!

Great drive from Alonso, starting from the pitlane and finishing 6th. Very clever strategy from Ferrari to start him on the softer compound in anticipation for a safety car. He drove the whole race on 1 set. Superb
Schumacher wanted to spoil things but he only spoiled things for himself!

Kubica also drove superbly

Just like we saw in Bahrain, the title will be between Vettel and Alonso and now Webber if he keeps up his consistency.

Good to see you again SGD and Bundy
