The session was brought to a close after the cars seemed to pull up manhole pits and both Carlos Sainz and Esteban Ocon incurred chassis destroying incidents. Both drivers were uninjured but there will be some serious engineering required to correct the problem.
The big question is "Will there be a Q2 today or will it be rescheduled until tomorrow?"

The extended FP2 eventually commenced at 2:30am. Spectators were escorted out of the grandstands prior to the the late start so, in the city that never sleeps, no-one saw the show.
Carlos Sainz had a 10 grid place penalty handed down to him due to the requirement of new components needed to repair his car after the track problems in FP1.
The session finished at 4:00am.
