We are all set for the commencement of the 2025 season.
What are we expecting when the teams roll out onto the track on Friday for their first session?
Have Red Bull corrected their problems for Max to get the best out of his machine?
Will the rear of the McLarens be sorted to give some confidence to their drivers?
What of Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari with Charles Leclerc. Which way will the team push their update?
And Mercedes. Are they looking good or have they shown what they have already?

These and other questions will be answered come Saturday afternoon after qualifying.
Bring it on!

Biggest news was Ollie Bearman dipping a wheel into the gravel coming out of turn 10. He seemed to keep his foot in the throttle and the right rear gripped spearing him into the outside concrete. Both right side corners were damaged with probably the gearbox. Not a great start to his and Haas' 2025 season.

Ollie Bearman's Haas wasn't repaired in time and missed the session.
It was around the 33C mark for both practice sessions. Tomorrow will be warmer with a possible change for race day. It is Melbourne so predictions can go out the window.

Ollie Bearman's weekend hasn't improved when, with just 3 minutes into the session, he ended in the sand trap. At least there was no damage to his Haas, just his pride. From memory, he has had only 12 laps over the 3 practice sessions.
Liam Lawson also had pneumatic problems and failed to record a time. Again, another driver behind the 8 ball going into qualifying.

What a fantastic qualifying session!
It went down to the wire where, what looked to be a first ever Australian on pole at the modern Australian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri's time was topped by team mate Lando Norris. Max Verstappen had a chance however a small error cost him pole.
Ollie Bearman's weekend continued badly with his Haas having gearbox issues, probably incurred in his FP1 crash.

Wow! Melbourne lived up to its reputation of 4 seasons in one day. That said, most of race day was just wet, windy and just plain ugly.

On the warm up lap to the start, Isack Hadjar lost traction of his Racing Bull exiting turn 1 ending in the barriers.
The start was delayed as marshals picked up the car and cleared up the debris.
Jack Doohan was the next to touch the white line exiting turn 5 and himself ended in the barriers bringing out the safety car. While under safety car conditions, Carlos Sainz lost his Williams as he entered the final turn. The rear came round, he hit the barrier and that was the end of what could have been an exceptional debut for the team.
The drivers were all in intermediates however the threat of another downpour kept them on track retaining track position.
Fernando Alonso was the next to crash and bring out the safety car. The track was basically dry so all remaining teams switched to slicks. A sound decision at the time however another shower appeared on the radar.
The wet track caught out both the front runners, Norris and Piastri both leaving the track as they exited turn 13. Piastri then ended in the wet grass unable to go forward to return to the track. Finding reverse, he battled for traction eventually getting to the turn 13 runoff. He rejoined basically last but still on the lead lap. It was time for intermediates and Lando Norris was the first in with many to follow.
Bortoleto had his own incident at Turn 13 and with Liam Lawson having his own at Turn 2. This brought out the safety car for the final time and gave us a 6 lap sprint to the flag. Piastri was is 13th and on the lead lap as the green flag dropped.
It was an enthralling sprint with Max getting close to Lando and Oscar picking his way through the remaining back markers. Lando Norris took the flag with Max Verstappen under a second behind in second. George Russell finished 3rd followed by Kimi Antonelli across the line. Unfortunately for Antonelli, he received a 5 second penalty which pushed him back to 5th after Alex Albon's Williams.
Oscar Piastri pulled off a fantastic pass on Lewis Hamilton on the last lap around the outside of turn 9 which secured 9th place. A great comeback when he looked like his race would end in the grass.

The 5 second penalty handed to Kimi Antonelli for a pit lane infringement was reviewed post race through the right to appeal and then rescinded. His 4th place finish is re-instated pushing Alex Albon down to 5th.
