It was a stop/start session with many red flags. Running was limited to about 20 minutes of the scheduled 60.
Jack Doohan brought out the first red when the rear of his Alpine snapped around entering turn 1. He was slow to exit the car but stressed that he was okay. The car is a different story with extensive damage to the left side and wings.
Second red flag was for Fernando Alonso touching the grass entering Degner 1 and spinning into the gravel trap.
The next 2 red flags were for fire on the grass beside the track. It seems the sparks from the planks under the cars was being blown onto the dry grass causing the fires. This will have to be resolved prior to qualifying and the race.

Jack Doohan's Alpine returned to the track following his massive Friday crash.
A small fire ignited just 7 minutes into the session bringing out the first of 2 red flags.
The last red flag was again for a small fire entering 130R. By the time it was extinguished, the session could not be resumed.

Max Verstappen did what he does best by finally showing his hand on his last run in Q3 by setting a new fastest lap at Suzuka.
Oscar Piastri set the benchmark on his first run and it was up to Lando Norris and Max Verstappen to catch him.
Lando Norris bettered Piastri's time then Verstappen, running next to last, topped both their times. Piastri was unable to improve on his initial run.

This sets up a for a great race tomorrow. Max has been complaining about his Red Bull and the Norris / Piastri inter-team battle will keep us all enthralled. That and the possibility of either another fire trackside or possible wet weather.
Bring it on!
