The circus moves to Imola, Italy this weekend with one driver having lost his seat. Jach Doohan, after a great qualifying in Miami, has been dropped by Renault in favour of Argentinian Franco Colapinto. With a mere 7 Grand Prix starts to his name and no points finishes, the Renault team decided that it was time to promote reserve driver Franco Colapinto onto the grid. Team Principal Oliver Oakes also rocked the team with his resignation. His position is yet to be permanently filled.

What a great practice session!
All teams turned up showing just what they had on their C6 soft tyres. The session came to a slightly early end with Gabriel Bortoleto parking his Sauber in the wall at Rivazza 2. As he went in straight into the tyre barrier, the damage appeared to be limited to basically a front wing. With about 1.2 seconds covering the entire field, things look promising for a close qualifying and race.

Again a great session with, at first, George Russell emerging as the first challenger to the McLaren duo.
This was then rectified by Lando Norris and then Oscar Piastri to assert the papaya dominance at the top of the times.
Pierre Gasly was a surprise planting his Alpine in third ahead of George Russell and Max Verstappen.
Again, a late incident with Isack Hadjar losing his Racing Bull in the second part of Tamburello and ending up against the barriers. He did try to drive away but ended up beached as he lost momentum trying to re-enter the track.
This time, a restart of the session left enough time in the session for the remaining 19 drivers to enter the track, have a lap and then practice starts.
The times set by the McLarens left them with a 0.2 second buffer over the rest of the field.

The final adjustments are made and the usual suspects are at or near the top.
The Williams duo continue to set impressive session times and Yuki Tsunoda continues to struggle.

That was a disrupted qualifying session.
Yuki Tsunoda brought out the first red flag with a big crash as he was exiting the Villeneuve chicane. The car went in rear first, rolled while in the air and finished on it's wheels. Damage to his Red Bull is huge however the driver walked away, aside from being a bit uncomfortable, without injury.
Q1 restart time was posted and Franco Colapinto moved to the pit exit. Unfortunately for him, he arrived too early and was noted by the race control. The usual penalty for this offence is a 1 place grid penalty. The session resumed and drivers set about getting their lap times recorded in the remaining 12 minutes. The clock wound down to zero and, as drivers were approaching the timing line, another red flag was thrown. Franco Colapinto ending in the barriers as he lost the rear of his Alpine while exiting Tamurillo. Oliver Bearman in his Haas thought he had done enough and, after another long delay, his fastest time was removed following video review of when he crossed the timing line compared to when the red flag was called. It was that close. Beneficiary to this decision was Gabriel Borteleto with a 15th fastest time allowing him through to the nest session.
Q2 commenced and the remaining 14 drivers took to the track. It all came down to the final runs to the flag as the time expired. With Franco Colapinto not starting due to damage, the interest was just which other 4 drivers would be eliminated. Bortoleto filled position 14 and three more needed to be dropped. Both Aston Martins ran the session on medium compound tyres and both made it through. Antonelli and Hamilton were gone and Pierre Gasly capped off a bad day for Ferrari pushing Charles Leclerc into position 11.
Q3 and, following the first runs, Max Verstappen set the pace ahead of the McLaren duo. The run to the flag commenced with Oscar Piastri exiting the pits with about 3 minutes remaining in the session. He set about by laying down a faster lap than Max. Considering he was distracted by 3 cars as he was completing his lap through Rivazza, it was a phenomenal effort. Max crossed the line and remained in second, Lando Norris crossed next and remained in third. George Russel had the last opportunity to usurp Piastri but his time was only good enough to take third. Surprise 5th was Fernando Alonso in his Aston Martin in an amazing change in form.

The race started and Oscar Piastri had the jump from the start. It appeared that he was more concerned with the fast starting George Russell and braked early entering Tamburillo. Max Verstappen only needed a small invitation and swept around the outside of the left hander with the inside line into the following right hander leaving Piastri no room to defend.
Max Verstappen then set about building an unassailable lead as Piastri, in the dirty air of the Red Bull, struggled to keep pace. George Russell pitted first and Piastri followed suit to cover the move. This place him on a guaranteed 2 stop strategy due to the laps remaining.
Max Verstappen, in clean air and Lando Norris following him around 10 seconds behind, set about making their one stop strategies work. A virtual safety car for Esteban Ocon and a full course safety car for Kimi Antonelli brought the field back together. Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton and Alex Albon took the opportunity to fit new tyres for the run to the flag while Piastri and Leclerc stayed out on their older tyres. In the end, Max took the flag followed by Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton and Alex Albon.
