Re: The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix Thread
The FIA have introduced a mandatory 2 stop strategy for this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix in a bid to throw some uncertainty into the race. Just when the teams will take their stops could create a few reactive decisions, particularly if a team is out of position towards the rear of field.

Re: The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix Thread
The red flags came out when Lance Stroll entered the Loews Hairpin. He had just let Kimi Antonelli pass and moved onto the racing line into the path of Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari hit the Aston Martin and both cars limped back to the pits. The red flag being for debris on the track.Charles Leclerc's Ferrari required a new front wing while damage to the Aston Martin more severe. It took not further part in the session. To rub salt into the wounds, Lance Stroll was later given a 1 place grid penalty for causing the collision.
Drivers explored the limits with many clipping the barrier at turn 15 in the pool complex. Charles Leclerc topped the times but was not happy with the balance of his car following his practice incident with Lance Stroll.

Re: The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix Thread
This practice session was littered with red flags. The first for Isack Hadjar when his Racing Bull clipped the barrier with his left rear while entering the Nouvelle Chicane. The rim broke and the tyre instantly deflated. He caught the car before it hit another barrier. the red flag then came out and he drove the car back to the pits.
The next red flag was for Oscar Piastri hitting the barriers at Sainte Devote. He missed the opportunity to take to the escape road and went in nose first. It did destroy a front wing but, due to hitting the barrier straight on, no other damage was sustained. A sideline to this incident was that Oliver Bearman picked up a 10 place grid penalty for passing another car under the red flag conditions brought on by Piastii's incident.
With about 12 minutes remaining in the session, Isack Hadjar had a second incident, this time exiting Sainte Devote. He hit both in the left front and left rear with most damage sustained on the left rear suspension. Again, he was able to limp the car back to the pits but this brought an end to his session.

Re: The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix Thread
In the closing stages of the session, Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari had a moment and ended in the barriers at Casino Square.
Damage looks to be right front and rear necessitating at least a gearbox change as well as suspension.

Re: The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix Thread
Q1 and it all happened!
Lance Stroll impeded Pierre Gasly as they entered the Nouvelle Chicane and incurred a 3 place grid drop on top of his 1 place grid penalty from Friday.
Lewis Hamilton impeded Max Verstappen entering Casino Square and he also incurred a 3 place grid penalty.
Kimi Antonelli clipped the barrier entering the Nouvelle Chicane, ended up in the barriers and ended Q1.
Q2 and George Russell's Mercedes lost power as he entered Casino Square with the car stopping in the tunnel. This brought out the second red flag in qualifying. This means that both Mercedes will start in positions 14 and 15 in the Grand Prix. The team may now control the pit stop strategies for the front running teams in the race.
Q3. The McLaren duo set the pace in the first runs ahead of Charles Leclerc's Ferrari. The McLarens then left the pits with about 4 remaining and set about laying down a time for all to chase. This also enabled them the opportunity to make a second run before the flag dropped. Charles Leclerc managed to set a time on his final run however Lando Norris, on his second run, took pole by 11/1000's of a second. Oscar Piastri had a scrappy lap and qualified 3rd for Sunday's Grand Prix.

Re: The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix Thread
Even with the compulsory 2 stop strategy, the top 4 remained in their starting positions.
Lewis Hamilton almost made up his grid penalty with a pass on Isack Hadjar and the demise of Fernando Alonso's Aston Martin.
The fun really began with teams slowing down the opponents cars to create space for a team mate to take a pit stop without losing position. At a place like Monaco, it can be easily done with the primary passing point into Sainte Devote and the other into the Nouvelle Chicane.
It commenced with the Racing Bulls, progressed to Williams and then the Mercedes team tried.
In all, it was a slow race with the top 5 completing the 78 lap race distance, positions 6 to 8 completing 77 laps and basically the rest completing 76 laps.
