Re: The 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Thread
This weekend will see the introduction of the FIA's mandate on flexible front wings.
Just how teams performance will be affected, time will tell. You will expect that teams have already tested their revised wings, probably as early as at Imola, to ensure they meet the new guidelines.
Will we see teams fail scrutineering, time will tell.
Or, by the use of video evidence, will we see teams pulled aside and be told to correct something prior to qualifying?
Bring it on!

Re: The 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Thread
It looks like it's going to be another great weekend for Formula 1.
The sun is out and it is hot. The times are close and it looks like the flexing wing technical directive doesn't look like it will have a great effect on the teams. Basically, all teams are similarly affected so the status quo remains.
Aside for a few drivers running off track and Max Verstappen losing time having suspension updates, it was a quiet session.

Re: The 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Thread
In the session indicative of qualifying, Oscar Piastri showed what he had and led all other drivers by near 3/10ths of a second.
Ollie Bearman had a moment exiting turn 3, looping his Haas and regaining control to exit the gravel trap. He returned to the pits and the crew initially looked at repairing the damage to the floor. A decision was made to replace it and he returned to the circuit for long runs.
The Williams duo appear to be in for a harder weekend compared to the recent results and the Aston Martins were still applying flo vis as their balance isn't where they would like.
Racing Bulls appear to be the number 5 team at this moment although Pierre Gasly's Alpine and Fernando Alonso's Aston Martin are inside the top 10.
One thing I will comment on is Lance Stroll's audio back to the pits. I know we probably don't get the whole message but really. Don't just say "It's so bad. It's just the look, you know". No I don't! Good feedback is essential in getting problems sorted. The crew aren't mind readers. Tell them something that they can work with.
There is time to review and, being in Europe, time to modify and experiment. Tomorrow is another day.

Re: The 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Thread
The McLaren team found a little something overnight and they look more stable and are ahead of the field.
Isack Hadjar continues to impress and Williams are struggling.
Fernando Alonso is at home and showing the faithful that, given the right conditions, he is still the number one driver in his team.
The Ferrari team seem to be continuing their good form from Monaco.

Re: The 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Thread
Q1 and just who wouldn't make it through to the next session came down to the wire. Franco Colapinto had a problem as the cars were lining up in the pit lane. It looked like his problem would cause some to not make the flag for their final runs however all, aside from Colapinto, managed to do so.
The biggest loss from this session was Carlos Sainz who had been struggling with his Williams all weekend. Yuki Tsunoda was another but he also has been struggling with the balance of his Racing Bull.
Q2 came and went with the usual suspects, Stroll, Bortoleto and Bearman failing to progress as well as Liam Lawson and Alex Albon.
Q3 commenced with Lando Norris setting his time a mere 0.017 seconds faster than Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen must have had a small error and was back in position 5. Fernando Alonso only had one set of softs for the session and went out in the quiet time between the 2 run plan drivers. This time, Lando Norris led the way followed by Oscar Piastri. A couple of small errors by the English man still allowed him to to marginally improve his time however Piastri, the next car on the road, had a near perfect lap to better Norris' time by 2/10ths of a second.
Max Verstappen qualified in position 3 and George Russell then equaled his time to qualify on position 4.
Late News:
Lance Stroll will not race in Spain this weekend. He has recurring hand and wrist injuries from his 2024 pre-season training incident and has been struggling the last few weeks with the pain and inconvenience. As a substitute driver has not taken part in any of this weekend's sessions, the car will have to be withdrawn.

Re: The 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Thread
Well. What's there to say?
Oscar Piastri started from pole, made turn 1 in first place and controlled the race from there.
Max Verstappen and Red Bull decided to try the 3 stop strategy but it never had the chance to pan out due to the safety car coming out on lap 56 or 66. The safety car returned to the pits with 6 laps remaining and with Max Verstappen on hard compound tyres. As he exited the final turn onto the straight, the Red Bull stepped out causing him to lose momentum. Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen refused to move across as both drivers tried to get Lando Norris' slipstream resulting in contact as they were about to enter the braking area. George Russell got involved, easing up the inside of Max, when he had a bobble. This resulted in contact with Max forcing him onto the escape road between turns 2 and 3. Max was then instructed by the team to surrender position 4 to George Russell and he lost his cool releasing his brake as the pair raced into turn 5. The two made contact which surprised George Russell as he was of the opinion the Max was redressing the illegal pass bu=y use of the escape road.
The flag fell with Piastri ahead of Norris, Leclerc and Russell. 10 second penalties were handed out to Max for causing a collision and Ollie Bearman for an off track overtake that he failed to redress. Max fell to 10th and Bearman became the last car to finish.
