Thoughts on the Brazilian Grand Prix

Congratulations to Fernando Alonso for becoming the 2005 Formula 1 World Champion. He needed to finish 3rd and that is what he did. He was calm and consistent despite the pressure he was under.

Well done to Juan Pablo Montoya who fought off a challenge from Kimi Raikkonen and won the race for the second time in a row. Well done to McLaren who for first time this season achieve a 1-2 finish. They have now taken the lead in the Constructors' Championship from Renault for the first time this season!.

Michael Schumacher managed 4th which is a good result considering the poor results of the last few races. What is encouraging for Ferrari is that they pulled away from Toyota in the Constructors' Championship.

Giancarlo Fisichella had an impressive qualifying yesterday but his race pace wasn't!. He dropped 2 places on the first lap and ended behind Michael Schumacher.

Rubens Barrichello finished 6th ahead of Jenson Button again demonstrating the good pace from the Ferrari here. Button on the other hand struggled from the start and just managed to hang on to 7th ahead of Ralf Schumacher in the Toyota.
The Toyota wasn't on pace either and they are now too far behind Ferrari to realistically challenge them for 3rd.

Christian Klien had a superb qualifying but struggled in the race finishing just outside the points in 9th. Sato who started from the back managed 10th while the 2 Saubers finished in 11th and 12th.

Coulthard managed to take both Williams out of the race at the start. He tried to squeeze between the 2, clipped the rear tyre of Pizzonia sending him into a spin that took out Webber! The stewards aren't investigating any of the drivers but it looked an ambitious move by Coulthard.

Thoughts ?

Well done Alonso.
Fisi seemed to do what Fisi has done most of the season
A big improvement by Ferrari.
Have McLaren solved their technical gremlins?
DC claims that he was squeezed by Pizzi, having got where he was by acceleration, not stuffing it in under brakes.
Webber must be starting to think he is jinxed.
BAR must be looking forward to the formula change next season.
A good race to watch, despite the hour, and the usual dribbling drivel from the clowns in the commentary box.

Well done Fernando... you have made Jay Vee a very happy man

Alonso deserves to be World Champion as he has hardly put a foot wrong all season. To have maintained his cool under what would have been mounting pressure was impressive.

And maybe there is a ray of hope for Ferrari to finish the season on a high note, which will carry through to next season.

As for BAR, I think they had their set-up too much on the side of a wet weather race and I expect them to be strong again next race.

Hey Julian, would you would agree that Ferrari are back in the frame again :?:

You've made it!. Move over Michael Schumacher, Alonso has arrived.

Great race from the top 3. Montoya deserved to win, Kimi tried and Alonso used his head.
The last 2 races will be electrifying!!

Michael did well but what was wrong with Fisichella ??. 5th place is always a fight between Ferrari, BAR, Toyota and sometimes Williams. This time it was Ferrari with the upper hand

Button had a poor drive, perhaps he needs to have a continuous contract dispute to perform!

Too bad for the Williams pair to go out that way. To me it would have been an interesting fight. Maybe in Japan ?

Driver of the day Montoya
Driver of the year Alonso The Cute :D

The coverage was poor as usual from Brazil and perhaps I should count how many times James Allen mentions Button

Thanks "The Meanest" but be careful, you get away once!

We've witnessed the end of an era with Alonso's ascension as WDC. As young as Fernando is, he could win as many WDCs' as M. Schumacher has. Perhaps next year Kimi will have a reliable enough car under him to win a WDC himself, but it'll have to wait until 2006.

Congratulations, Alonso!

Hey, Coronado, thank you for the useful information.

Could you enrich us giving the driver names of the ones who took less GPs to:

1) lead a race
2) win a race
3) do a pole
4) do a best lap
5) become world champion

Starting from the sixties (otherwise all question could be answered looking at the first championship statistics).
This is not a tease. I am really curious.
Best
Andre
