Chinese Grand Prix - Live Commentary

Post by Ed » Fri Oct 14, 2005 12:02 pm

As the crew have unexpectedly found themselves in China, we won't be able to provide live commentary on the practice sessions and qualifying. However one of our regular contributors Julian Mayo will thankfully be covering the race. (He did a fantastic job on the Bathurst V8 race)

We will attempt to provide with updates throughout the weekend as soon as we can.

We apologise for this inconvenience

You can find alternate live coverage resources on the Live Coverage page.

Oh, yes. They get to see the race live, along with Kappy. Hobnob in the corporate boxes, share a maccas with JPM, watch Button come undone, have a post race drink or 50 with Kimi, tower over Alonso, see the bridgestones melt first hand. I get to trip over Fang another 100 times, running from the TV to the computer and back.

Qualifying Update--China

Post by mlittle » Sat Oct 15, 2005 7:20 pm

Here's a brief update in case anyone's interested....

While the practices sessions seemed to show McLaren dominance, qualifying was a whole other ballgame, as the Renaults' of Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella swept the front-row in qualifying. Alonso will start P1 with a time of 1:34.080 secs., while his Renault teammate Fisichella qualified P2 with a time of 1:34.401. Raikkonen, by virtue of his win at Suzuka, was the last to attempt a qualifying run but a few small mistakes on his flyer put him in P3, almost .4 secs. behind Alonso.

The qualfiying order for the Grand Prix of China....

Row 1:Fernando Alonso, Renault
Giancarlo Fisichella, Renault
Row 2:Kimi Raikkonen, McLaren
Jenson Button, BAR-Honda
Row 3:Juan Pablo Montoya, McLaren
Michael Schumacher, Ferrari
Row 4:David Coulthard, Red Bull-Cosworth
Rubens Barrichello, Ferrari
Row 5:Ralf Schumacher, Toyota
Mark Webber, Williams-BMW
Row 6:Felipe Massa, Sauber-Petronas
Jarno Trulli, Toyota
Row 7:Antonio Pizzonia, Williams-BMW
Christian Klien, Red Bull-Cosworth
Row 8:Narain Karthikeyan, Jordan-Toyota
Jacques Villeneuve, Sauber-Petronas
Row 9:Takuma Sato, BAR-Honda
Christijan Albers, Minardi-Cosworth
Row 10:Tiago Montiero, Jordan-Toyota
Robert Doornbos, Minardi-Cosworth

Now all that's left is the race itself and Julian's commentary on it....Judging by his commentary from the Bathurst 1000, it should be an interesting race. 8) 8)

While Julian prepares for the commentary, here's a brief update....

It's already a bit of a surreal weekend, with all the farewells from the sport(goodbye's to Minardi, Jorda, BAR, Sauber and Michelin's Pierre Dupasquier), but I'm watching the Speed Channel pre-race show and they just showed Albers running over the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher.

Hopefully, the race will be a bit anti-climatic.

Apparently, from what they showed, Albers came up on Schumacher and just ran over the rear left tire of Schuey. The stewards, according to Speed Channel, are investigating the on-track "incident" but both drivers are in their respective spares for the race.

BTW, while their preparing, Julian, did you see the qualifying commentary for the IndyCar race at Fontana earlier today?

Schuey actually wandered over in front of Albers. No mirrors again !

From the Speed Channel broadcast(way to go, geniuses! ) it appeared that Schuey was the victim, but if he wandered over in front of Albers....does Michael ever use his mirrors, or does he just go by blind faith?
