The Minardi team announced today that Katherine Legge will test a Minardi Cosworth at Vallelunga during the 4th week of November.
Katherine Legge said:
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to drive the Minardi. It has been a dream and an ambition of mine to drive a Formula One car since I was a little girl.
I am extremely grateful to Paul Stoddart and Kevin Kalkhoven for giving me this opportunity, and I am now focused on trying to impress and do a professional job in the test.
Paul Stoddart said:
We have been watching Katherine?s progress for some while now, and with her outstanding performances in the Toyota Atlantic Championship this season, we felt she was clearly deserving of a chance to experience a Formula One car.
We have always said that if a sufficiently talented woman racing driver arrived on the scene, who appeared capable of handling the performance of an F1 car, we would have no hesitation in giving her an opportunity to show what she could do. I believe Katherine has done more than enough to warrant that chance.
Given that Minardi will change ownership on the 1st of November, it is beleived this test has the approval of the new owners Red Bull

Legge is realistic about her chances of a career in Formula 1 but hopes to do a good job in her test with Minardi that she gets considered. Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live she also indicated that she is testing Champ Cars in November.
Legge said:
I am also testing for Champ Cars in November and my realistic goal is to drive in their series. But if I can do a good job in F1 who knows what may be round the corner.

I dont think she would accept the relative obscurity of test driving.

This young woman is a racer, as well as a fine driver.

Yes Julian, a test role would only be for 1 year to get used to the car and the tracks. A number of drivers have taken that path in the past including World Champions

And she never drove these tracks as a British woman in FF , where she went quite well:shock:

Thanks mlittle,
I would like to add that Juan Caceres is from Uruguay and has won the Portuguese Formula BMW title in 2003, moved to the Spanish F3 Championship in 2004, and then to the Italian F3000 Championship, with GP Racing, in 2005.
The 2 Italian drivers Luca Filippi and Davide Rigon were selected in a joint ACI/CSAI ?driver-search? programme to be given their first taste of Formula One performance.
Chanoch Nissany is a Minardi test driver.
