F1 Regulations for 2006
The following new regulations will apply in 2006:
- 2.4 V8 90 degree engines replacing the 3.0 V10 engines (EDIT: Teams may opt to use this year's V10 engines but will be rev limited)
- New qualifying format - 3 short sessions - details at this thread
- Tyre changes during the race will be allowed
The following changes were proposed but rejected by the F1 commission:
- Banning of spare cars
- 3rd cars on Friday for teams ranked 5th to 10th.
Both will stay in 2006.
More details will be available as soon as the Technical and Sporting Regulations for 2006 are published.

Yes some teams may opt for a rev limited V10 engine from this year. In fact Minardi (soon to be owned by Red Bull) will use this year's Cosworth engines next year.

I think the Mercedes V10 was the least reliable of all engines. It must be very fragile. The earlier Hondas were like that but I doubt anything could be worse over a whole season


I can't wait till the top teams go out with their new engines

I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

Detuning reduces the fragility.
I think tho that teams using V10s will cop a weight penalty.

Agree with rah on the reliability of V10 with rev limit too...like Renault did in China during practise

Sorry that information isn't available however it would be safe to assume that the Bridgestone teams voted for the change while the Michelin teams didn't. The 2005 Technical Regulations clearly state that teams who don't have access to a competitive V8 will be allowed to use a V10 in a restricted way (By means of a rev limit. There will be no weight penalty)
The specific penalty (rev-limit) for the use of the V10 has not yet been announced. I suspect that the FIA needs some real idea on how the V8's will perform then decide.
Under Article 22 (Changes for 2006) under amendments to Article 5
5.2 Alternative engines :
For 2006 and 2007 only, the FIA reserves the right to allow any team to use an engine complying with the 2005 engine regulations, provided its maximum crankshaft rotational speed does not exceed a limit fixed from time to time by the FIA so as to ensure that such an engine will only be used by a team which does not have access to a competitive 2.4 litre V8 engine.

You are already making championship claims for Webber and he hasn't even won a race. Wonder what you'll start saying when he finally win his first race
He is managed by Flavio and was a test driver at Renault before Alonso and so do the
Coulthard will always finish in the points outside the podium. Be it in a Williams, McLaren or a Redbull. That is what he is good at
Championship next year will again be between The Cute and Kimi. Button, Trulli may have a chance but only if Honda or Toyota have a huge advantage over the rest and that I very much doubt.

read the posts !!! I have just made the suggestion that DC in the well sorted Red Bull with a detuned V10 could be a good bet !!!
If you are referring to my signature, that is merely a rejoinder to your constant crowing about Alonso. Whom I might add, you switched your allegiance to after he began to win races (poor Jacques, tossed on the scrapheap of JV's discards). I will put it on record that I consider Alonso a worthy champion and an excellent driver..in the top 5 of current pilots.
