Aguri Suzuki, the team boss of the newest Formula 1 team has confirmed today their intention of being on the grid in 2006.

Named the Super Aguri Formula One team, they have officially informed the FIA of their intention to race and are awaiting approval.

Aguri Suzuki said:

We have cleared all the hurdles we had to clear up to this point. Obviously there is a huge amount of work left but we plan to be on the grid in 2006.

The team will be powered by Honda. Takuma Sato is expected to be one of their drivers.

More details to be provided as soon as it becomes available.

If Aguri Suzuki does indeed get his new Formula 1 team off and running in 2006, then it likely means he's preparing to cut his current support to the IRL's Aguri-Fernandez Racing team, possibly forcing them to drop from two cars(Scott Sharp, Kosuke Matsuura) to one car(most likely Sharp).

I still dont know how they are going to get around the regulation that each team must build and race its own individual, stand alone, team designed car.

Honda B-team? Aguri Suzuki's prospective 2006 outfit, Super Aguri F1, could probably be more aptly described as 'Arrows reincarnated'. Based at Arrows' old Leafield HQ, it is now reported that the Japanese team has bought four 2002-spec 'A23' Arrows cars from Minardi boss Paul Stoddart.
Because it does not have time to built an unique car, and FIA regulations forbid the use of BAR-Honda's '007' challenger, Suzuki's latest plan could put a four-year-old chassis on the 2006 F1 grid.

Even if they get a brand new chassis, you think the V8 Honda will last a race distance for the first half of the season

The official entry list for 2006 was released by the FIA and the Super Aguri Team did not make it.

The FIA confirmed the team's application was rejected but gave no reason. It is beleived that the team failed to come up with the $48 million bond required by new teams.

Super Aguri F1 team today announced that they have gained agreement from all the 10 teams participating in the Formula One World Championship.

The team will now apply again to the FIA to participate in the 2006 F1 season.

Super Aguri F1 team is expected to be confirmed as the 11th team in the 2006 Formula One World Championship next week.

The FIA has received official notification that all the teams have approved the late entry of Super Aguri. The FIA are now waiting for the financial guarantee which is expected to presented next week.

More when the announcement is made but it looks like we'll have a 22 car grid for the first time since the European Grand Prix in 2002 and that has to be great news!

how do you think, it's good or bad for f1 the entry of this new team with such old cars??

i'd like to see more cars in the gird but competitive cars, what for a team 4 years slower then the rest??

BACK.

I think that initially they will do little else but run around at the rear, getting in the way of Schuey. But the Japanese National Pride, and Honda engines wont let that happen for long, and the more midfield runners we have, the more interesting it gets

Super Aguri may indeed run at the back but it won't be for long. They will either improve or exit.
If Red Bull turns around Minardi like they did Jaguar then Toro Rosso will move forward and Super Aguri would replace them at the back
