Unfortunately, Ambrose didn't get but 6 laps under his belt when the track, newly repaved, "bit" him......he was exiting turn 4 onto the tri-oval when he spun on the high side and smacked the outside wall; 2 other trucks spun trying to avoid him. As for the finish.......he ended up finishing shotgun on the field(i.e. 36th), while Nextel Cup regular Kyle Busch went on to win the race. Next race for the trucks is May 27th at Mansfield Motorsports Park in Mansfield, Ohio.

Qual. for Saturday's NCTS race in Mansfield, Ohio was cancelled due to severe thunderstorms which went htrough the area, so the grid was set by the 2006 owner's pts. stdgs, putting Marcos Ambrose on the outside of row 14; the race itself is set for 2 PM US EDT(18:00 UTC 27 May).

As expected, today's NCTS race at Mansfield was your typical short-track race, and in a surprise, it wasn't a Ford or Toyota that won; it was the Chevy Silverado of Ron Hornaday that won. As for Ambrose, he had his best finish of the year in his four truck starts, a 23rd, finishing on the lead lap.

Next up......the one-mile concrete oval in Dover, the "Monster Mile", a/k/a Dover Downs Raceway.

Tonight, the NCTS teams are in for a one-day, practice, qual. and race weekend at Dover Downs Raceway, to the always challenging 1-mile concrete track known as the "Monster Mile". Tonight's truck race will be led to the green by David Reutimann(#17 Tundra Toyota) at 8 PM this evening US EDT. As for Ambrose......he'll start 12th, alongside Mike Skinner. Ironically, it will be the first time that Ambrose has set the fastest rookie time this year in the NCTS. Good luck to all the drivers; results to be announced later this evening.

As for the race.........Nextel Cup veteran Mark Martin won his third NCTS race of the year; Ambrose finished 26th, running at the end but 4 laps off the pace. Next stop for the trucks.............the challenging, high-banked 1.5-mile oval in Arlington, Tx., the Texas Motor Speedway, where the trucks will share the track with the IRL IndyCar Series(the trucks will race Friday night, June 9th; the IndyCars will race Saturday night, June 10th).

It was a tough going for Ambrose, but he battled to a 27th-place finish, 4 laps down from Friday's NCTS race winner, Todd Bodine. The race was pretty good....for a truck race, of course. Anyway, Ambrose currently sits in 33rd spot on the points table.

As for the trucks........its' on to one of, IMHO, one of the better tracks for racing in NA motorsports, Michigan Intl. Speedway. Located in the Irish Hills of central Michigan(in other words......it's in the middle of nowhere!   ), the 2-mile, moderately-banked oval offers drivers a couple of grooves to race in during the race. Finishes here are usually close and fuel mileage will be at a premium.

~~23 June 2006, Milwaukee.....started 9th, finished 18th(first driver -1 lap)
~~1 July 2006, Kansas............started 4th(led lap 1), finished 3rd

---current NCTS points position.....805 pts, 30th place

I saw the highlights of today's truck race, and I have to say that's the best Marcos has driven all year; he's starting to get used to the ovals. It was an impressive performance.

No, you'd be correct on that one. Started 11th, led 15 laps, and was right in the thick of it at the end, finishing 3rd. :)
