For the first time Michael Schumacher has given a hint that he may decide to stop racing at the end of this season.

Speaking to Der Spiegel he said:

If I don't have the chance to win races and challenge for the title then I don't think I'll be very keen to extend my career.

Schumacher's contract expires at the end of the 2006 season. It is thought that he'll decide on whether to renew his contract or not with Ferrari in March after testing the new car.

After the number of driver errors in 2005, I think 2006 is a year too late

Hard to say but I'd say since he didn't retire at the top he won't retire until he isn't offered a drive!

If Villeneuve can stay in F1 this long just because he is a one time champion, Michael still has 5 years to go

Well this year we have the highly acclaimed Rosberg - how do think he'll go against Webber BTW ? There is also Speed and maybe Liuzzi has learned from last year and will show us some of the skill he is supposed to have
I think next year we'll have more with several contracts for the 'older' drivers running out. (If only Toyota stops writing those big checks )

I think that in the first few races Nico wont see which way Webber went. But he is young, and undenaibly quick. As his racecraft develops he will close the gap. Say what you will of Webber, he is a "thinking driver" and can change strategy on the move (provided the pit crew can too !). It will take time for Nico to do that. The day Toyota stops writing a big cheque for Ralf could be the day Michael joins them.
Sadly I think this year will be the last for JV, unless he blows Nick to the weeds, and I cant see that happening. If Button is flogged by Barrichello, that will be the last we will see of him.

Hmmmm I sense a bit of respect for young Nico. Wise move! From what I read Nico and Heikki are the future stars of F1 so Webber better get his stuff done and not get rattled cause if he does, his future is on the line. Nico has nothing to lose.

Heidfeld was Raikkonen's and Webber's teammate remember. Neither of those beat him so when Villeneuve beats him you'll then realise he still got what it takes
