I like that mlittle
If I want to be realistic today (just to keep Julian and rah happy) then I'd say lets wait until The Cute gets in the car and starts pushing it. If the times are good and the car is reliable then yes, Ferrari, Orange McLaren and Toyota will be scratching their heads

Lets not forget that at this stage of the season there is an incredible amount of foxing going on, unless a team is absolutely sure they have a weapon to smear the opposition all over the track we are not going to see representative race times. I seem to recall Ferrari were very quick this time last year

In order to help clear some of the confusion regarding the times (we'll never be able to clear the confusion totally!), in the times for each session we will indicate which cars are in 2006 spec.
At this stage only 3 teams have 2006 spec cars and they are Toyota, Red Bull and Renault.
The rest of the teams are running hybrid cars some fitted with V8 engines and some with V10 engines (restricted or otherwise).
Ferrari is an exception though as they have been testing their V8 unit in the 2004 spec car and testing with a 2005 spec car with a restricted V10 unit.

interesting that DC is having problems with the ferrari engine, while Schuey is not.

The new Red Bull is having overheating problems and that could be related. Also note that most of the V8 runners haven't been putting many laps on their cars (Honda is the exception).

2nd day of testing at Jerez.
9 Formula 1 teams were present today with 16 drivers setting lap times.
Pedro de la Rosa driving the MP4-20 fitted with a V10 engine set the fastest time ahead of Michael Schumacher and Ricardo Zonta.
Pedro de la Rosa's best time was a 1:16.509
Michael Schumacher's best time wsa a 1:17.970 (F2004 V8 ).
The fastest 2006 Spec car was that of Ricardo Zonta with a 1:18.541
Anthony Davidson in the interim Honda V8 covered the most number of laps with 112.
There were problems for David Coulthard (engine), Ralf Schumacher (Spin) and Nico Rosberg (Gearbox).
Weather conditions were cold and partly cloudy. Air temperature reached 17 degrees while track temperatures reached 24 degrees.
Testing continues tomorrow with Rubens Barrichello getting his first taste of the Honda and Scott Speed testing for Toro Rosso.

4 secs a lap difference between PDLR and Paffet is a heck of a lot no matter what configuration they are testing

I find McLaren's strategy of going back to test in a V10 until the new car is ready a bit strange ??? They ran out of V8 engines or something ??
It is also strange that Ferrari have only been testing the V8 in the 2004 car which is vastly different. Presumably the V8 can't fit in the 2005 car but does in the 2004 meaning they are using the 2004 as their base for the 2006 ?
I agree with a few here that the Renault is looking good I must admit

Fisichella is saying he didn't touch the setup yet the times are decent!
I do hope the MP4-21 comes out soon

I wonder if they are already regretting letting Wurz go
It really depends though how much the V10 of Paffett was restricted. Pedro's doesn't look like it was restricted at all

From what I can gather Graham, the 2005 Ferrari was such a dog that the 2004 car is a lot closer to, and partly forming the basis of the 2006 chassis,as they have reliable chassis data from it so they are using it as a tyre and fuel mule.

Ahhh the joys of trying to analyze testing results. My head hurts already

So all the Bridgestone blaming was just a cover ?
If that is the case, I can't see them making up a whole season that quickly.

I think the tyres and chassis were ill-matched and blame should be even. Remember the one time they did work, we had a bloody good race between Schuey and Alonso. I think they just couldn't get it to work on most circuits, and went down the wrong track in attempting to do so

Tell me about it!
Just trying to figure out what is the point of running a V10 at full revs when you are going to run a V8. Even the tyre data isn't applicable. I guess they love to keep comparing
