He was supposed to make some sort of announcement but that has not happened... or at least not that I know of and it is not on his website.
Would be nice to see him and Montoya duke it out on the oval :knight:
That would be good to see. :D :D :D

Villeneuve and Montoya in NASCAR is a scary thing. I remember a few year ago when they had a fight after a practice session. I think Villeneuve brake tested Montoya or was it the other way, can't remember :(

I have my doubts about both JPM and JV's success in NASCAR. Those guys are used to make a right turn every once in a while :)

That is a valid point but don't forget that both used to race in the US on ovals.

Now this will show how much I know about motorsport in the US, on ovals do they always race in the same direction in Indy and Champ ? and is it the opposite to NASCAR ?
Also are all the NASCAR races on ovals ?

There are some road races which are not run on ovals (Watkins Glen is a prime example). Also some races, albeit very few, run clockwise. Here's a link for you that will clarify some of the deeper aspects of NASCAR:
http://www.jayski.com/pages/faqrace.htm

For instance Indianapolis runs clockwise in F1 (using about a quarter of the oval) but CCW in all other races. That also has to do with the layout of the runoff areas, track access openings and pit layouts specific to the certain race type...

Thanks gkaytaz for that,

So they have 2 road courses, they should win those!!

I am trying to compare between Champ and NASCAR, do they run in the same direction ? If they do and given Villeneuve's and Montoya's experience they shouldn't struggle too much one would think!!

No. They have both kinds. I have to check with the tracklist to give an exact number but Champ Car resembles F1 in that most tracks tend to run CW.

A driver from F1 heritage may well be successful in NASCAR but keep in mind that we're talking about stock cars here. Braking, acceleration and controls are all different than F1. I'd say those two (if JV runs that is) will score some points there. However their first wins may be a year or two away yet.

You never know but Villeneuve could be Rookie of the year yet again :D

I agree though it will be tough!

Isn't Montoya already practising ?

I have no problem with his ability to drive a car. His temper on the other hand... :? NASCAR is definitely not a place to be touchy (moody even) where you have 42 identical cars buzzing around you.

not that i know of JayVee. Ron has said that JPM is still contracted to McLaren and he is not permitted to drive any thing else until the contract expires in december. if he is testing then its being kept very hush hush.
I'm in shape

He's right; for some reason, McLaren hasn't completely cut Montoya loose, hence keeping him from getting any driving experience. I'm betting Ganassi's counsels are telling him not to let Montoya practice until either his McLaren contract expires OR until NASCAR's Dodge Mtrspts. representative(Ganassi's Nextel Cup team uses Dodge Chargers to race with) can somehow convince Mercedes to nudge Dennis into cutting him loose early.

As for what Villeneuve's going to do.......I'm not really sure what he's going do at the moment. Rumor has it that he's talking to several top-or-mid-tier Nextel Cup teams(which ones are unknown at the moment) but nothing's certain right now.  :?

Denis has said, "we are happy to keep paying JPM til his contract expires.....we are open to offers if someone wants to buy out his contract so he can drive ANYTHING else"

Dunno about other vehicles but JPM was surely driving himself mad.
