He had won races with Williams only. And that was when Michael was dominating the scene. Since he's moved to Toyota he managed three podiums and one pole. I guess it must be the car. Or the wall at Indy. He never recovered from that incident in 2004. Pity...jacfan wrote:No problem Jim.![]()

But why would I provide data on RalfJim Watt wrote: I guess I was expecting something from Jay Vee. What baffles me is that he CAN drive well as well as terribly, unlike, for example, dear Jense who, once again, drove beautifully at Indy ---in a machine that, charitably speaking, is an embarrassment to F1 and to Honda's racing heritage. In fact they ought to replace the map of the world on their cars with a flaming LEMON scheme.

Why for a driver who has had 57 retirements of which:
- were 21 accidents or clashes
- were 9 spins
So 30 out of 57 were his own fault. That is more than 52%


As for his wins, his first 4 all came immediately after a retirement and the last 2 came back to back.
Why ?

I believe he should have called it quits after crashing that curve at Indy two years in a row. Yes, some people say that the second crash wasn't really his fault but as you pointed out he had had too many retirements thanks to his own mistakes... He was an average 5th place finisher that year.
Ralf has become a regular 6th place finisher in 2005. He finished 6th in the drivers standings.
Then 7th place finisher in 2006. Finished 10th thanks to a number of retirements.
Now all he can scrape up is 8th place, and that only occasionally... Now he's placed 15th. Out of 23 drivers, of which one has raced in a single GP and scored half of Ralf's pts already

God Bless you, Jay Vee! I laughed and laughed as you posted those brilliant figures on dear Ralphie. And you inspired some thoughtful further statistics from GKayTaz [whom I decipher as a person from Tasmania, an Island S. of Australia. Strictly on the basis of the origin of this EXCELLENT list.]
At any rate, it can't be fun to be earning all that cash as you slide back further and further into the back markers. Still, that's better than NOT earning all that cash!

As to your loyalty to Fernando; I admire it. Just like I admire JacFan's love of the (not so) lovable Jacques. But having spent several hours watching Lewis and Fernando in identical cars last week, I don't see him taking charge any time soon.
On the other hand, just to show how weakly I follow my own logic, I still BELIEVE in Kimi. Even though the reasons to doubt are getting more and more evident!
I guess that's why we HAVE races. And why we watch them. Even getting up in the middle of the blinking night to do so. Or going out in the BLAZING sun to see them live!!]
(In my case, in the middle of the night it's always with my headphones on, so I can get the full sound without waking my beloved wife. Who went out for practice last week with me on Friday and, after dinner said: "I can kind of see why you love it so. The rush is kind of addictive; having your eyeballs struggle to keep up with the pace and then being smacked in the stomach by the sound. But it's really just too exhausting for me!")
And that reminds me, too, of why I so ENJOY this list. We all have such a good time while we wait our way through the long, L O O O N G G periods between races.
