While I agree that Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna and the rest of them all had very healthy egos and were indeed great drivers, I don't remember any of them being so egotistical at the start of their careers. They earned the right to be called champions before boasting about it.
Lewis on the hand is only in his second year and has yet to win a WDC and drives like he is the only important person on the track seemingly not to give a rat's bottom who he pushes off the track in order for him to prove he has BIG balls!!! I would rather someone like Sebastian Vettel who was thrilled with his first pole position and then race win and didn't act like he was the king of the freaking circuit and everyone else was crap.
My opinion and nobody has to like it but I would hope that you can at least respect my right to have it.

I've got mixed opinions about Hamilton. While I don't like some of what he says and does and to be blunt some of it is not up to what is expected of a top sportsperson, I think that he is good for the sport. Peoples opinions of him may be polarized but at least people know who he is and what he is about.
Top drivers should be mentally tough enough not to let any derogatory that he may make about them effect their performance.
The big problem I do have with Hamilton is the way he drives and that needs to be sorted out before an injury accident occurs.
I have a problem with alot of todays sportspeople who are overly diplomatic. It comes across as fake.
Thats my opinion anyway.

Yes I agree with the fakeness. You can tell with a lot of the interview post race that they are towing the party line. Most of the PRI are frankly quite boring. Vettel was quite a breath of fresh air and so naturally happy. I personally like the interviews with the ones that are more passsionate about winning and the race. Though I find LH tries hard in the PRI to come across as Mr Nice Guy. When they interview Kimi I just about fall asleep!!! LOL

Don't know about Schumacher but I have never heard or read a quote from Alonso describing himself as 'great' even after he won 2 championships.RE30B#16 wrote:I totally disagree with JayVee only on the point of Lewis Hamilton being arrogant. Hambone is damn good at what he is doing. He is on a fast track. He is no different than Fernando Alonso a handful of seasons ago. He is no different than Michael Schumacher. He is no different than Ayrton Senna.
All of these guys had the gonads to say to an interviewer "I am the best." So what???!? The old fraternity of professional drivers that would only boast privately is gone. Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost ended all that. They were the first to use and abuse the media. In this day and age of professional sports, you must toot you own horn to get the big contracts.
Nick Heidfeld is a perfect example of a brilliant but humble guy. When he came into Formula 1, there was an effort made by a few of his countryman to keep him out of a top ride. Nick was too much of a gentleman to engage that Machiavellian element that persists in Formula 1 these days. Had he been given a proper drive when he first arrived on the scene, perhaps one of his countryman would not hold the record for winning the most WC titles as we speak. Who's fault is it then?
Most remarks are taken out of context these days to sell more papers and advertisement. Why let yourself be bothered by tabloid infotainment crap like that? Lewis is great at bringing a fight on the racetrack. He does not fake that funk. Forget the offtrack drama, and enjoy the racing!!
And I don't recall Alonso driving anyone off the track in his early years.
Alonso has proven in the past that you can win championships without being arrogant, without running drivers off the track and in a car that isn't the fastest out there.
Not many have been able to do that, certainly not a Lewis Hamilton whom despite having one of the quickest cars out there is leading the championship due to the misfortunes of Massa and Raikkonen.
I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

After years of refusing to openly declare he is the best, the humble 9 time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has finally come out and declared that he is indeed the best Formula 1 driver .....
"I have been a racing driver since I was eight years old and I know pretty much every single manoeuvre in the book, and that's why I'm the best at my job"
Well done Hamilton well done, after all those years you have finally shown your true colors

You know, I always thought Hamilton was a bit arrogant......at least now he's honest about it.....JayVee wrote:After years of refusing to openly declare he is the best, the humble 9 time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has finally come out and declared that he is indeed the best Formula 1 driver .....

Yeah right. In your dreams Lewis!!! Man I surprised your big fat head can fit into your helmet. You are good but you will never ever ever be as good as Senna.... or even Michael for that matter.JayVee wrote:The latest from Hamilton

I cant recall neither of the 2 ever declaring such a thing...![]()
However is it a true quote? Or taken out of context?
Whether or not he said it is almost immaterial at the moment............what someone should say to Hamilton is, "After you've won a couple of WDC's, then you can compare yourself to the greats of the sport. Until then, don't because you are not yet worthy to do so."

First I completely disagree with you on that. Maybe he is in a similar league to Michael when it comes to pushing other drivers off the track.
But on Hamilon's arrogance, the writing is on the wall.
Remember how he behaved describing Kimi Raikkonen at Spa ?
Then at the FIA hearing he claimed to know every manouvre in the book and he's the "best" out there ?
Then this.
This has been reported on many respected sites and I usually don't visit the trash sites that just spread rumours.
Hamilton lacks discipline and he cannot handle pressure. Ron Dennis as well as the British media have contibuted to that.
And I fully agree with mlittle's statement.
