mmn, u say that, but he tested at fiorano and was setting laps at only around a second over schumachers lap record... thats pretty quick lol, and im sure there are some drivers in f1 now who couldnt match that and they have been racing 4 wheels for years!
That is testing, that is one lap. Doing race distances with full fields is a tad different. There'd be no way I'd be throwing $33M at a total unknown on 4 wheels. I would bet he would blow races due to lack of experience at this, that and everything else for years.

The whole thing is about the dream of having an Italian Champion in a Ferrari - emotion instead of practicality. It will never work! :)

With Rossi in a Ferrari, I am sure the sponsorship dollars will more than cover his wage bill.
haha, very true 33mil must seem like a bargain..
byron, when he did the testing a few weeks ago i think he did 70 laps or maybe more... i didnt see a list of his lap times, but if he can do one lap as fast as he did i dont think u can jump to the conclusion that his race pace is going to be poor..
Obviously ferrari wont just stick him in the car for 2007 if he can only pull out one decent lap out of 70.. but thats why he'll be testing occasionally next year!

The differences with reguard to traffic and even general race craft are dissimilar enough to make me laugh at this idea. A season or 2 in F3000 for sure b4 I'd consider him.

Remember Michael Andretti? And he came from a 4 wheel series also. I just can't see it.

Though I must admit, Wayne Gardiner had reasonable success over here in the V8s but was considered by many as a bit of a nuisance. And it was only V8s too.

Then he did bloody well in the the japanese sports car series for a few years, which is why he stopped racing here. Faster, twitchier, cars and a lot more money.

I dont think its a matter of being quick enough (he has proved he can be pretty quick)... its more a case of will he be able to cope doing 60 odd laps, F1 places a lot of strain on the drivers, and i dont know if he will cope...Even Button has publicly said that he doesnt think Rossi has the Muscles (especially in the neck region) to be able to complete consecutive GP's....

Then Button is an F'wit of the 10th degree. The Motogp riders are subjct to as much, if not more, physical strain than F1 drivers. Have a look at the on board cameras.

Well he has set to agree terms on testing the ferrari at their private test track, they no he is popular with the Italians, but Luca de Montezemolo stated "its a winning driver that we need" They will take him on if his testing speed and performance to handle the car are excellent and if he has the ability to WIN!

Valentino RRossi has stated that his best lap time in the Ferrari was
57:5 "and that he took a lot of money off people who bet he wouldn't break the sixty second barrier."
(source F1i)
How this compares to Schuey et al,I have no idea.
Perhaps Ed could inform us.
