thanks for the Memo to Max. i couldn't agree more. there is, of course, always a lot of noise about the difficulty of overtaking being a consequence of aerodynamics which are necessitated by the FIA rules regarding the absolute dominance of big money. the notion is, as i understand it, mostly something along these lines: the premier form of motor racing in the world (F1) requires the unfettered dominance of engineering of the fastest form of motorcar with open wheels. this means that these machines, once outfitted to go fast, will be unable to contest for position owing to disturbances in the air which cause the overtaking (sic) machine to lose downforce on the front (steering) end and hence driving off into the sand (if lucky) rather than sliding neatly into the next position.

i also sent a memo to max, but mine, evidently, was too nasty to be posted since i can't find it anywhere.

sorry ed. i was just so furious with the FIA for the incredibly stupid ruling of the stewards.

i will admit that it wasn't as bad as Indy last year, but it was only owing to the skills of the drivers and good luck that it wasn't!

putting the fastest cars in mid-field to enforce ridiculous rules is worse than stupid; it's unnecessarily dangerous.

cio, Jim
