MEMO TO MAX

Post by Julian Mayo » Sun Jul 16, 2006 9:49 pm

MAX !!!!!!!!
Take a memo to yourself.
Get a copy of tonights MOTO GP race.
Watch it.
Watch it again.
And Again.
And Again.
And Again.
And Again.
Stop.
Think.
Yes Max, isn't it amazing.3......yes Max....3 different manufacturers,...4, yes Max....4...different riders, swapping places.....oh, sorry Max, that's slang for OVERTAKING......SEVERAL TIMES......EACH !!!!!!!!!!!.
Now watch it again Max.
and again, and again
.......It's enjoyable isn't it !
Exciting, isn't it !
Instead of throwing a shotgun approach to the rules n regs of F1,in the desperate hope that a pellet might get a bullseye, and castrating it while you wait for a lucky shot, why don't you swallow your pride, and go and talk to the experts....for once in your idiotic life.
NB Max.
My countryman was ruled out on medical advice,
yet I could not keep my eyes off the screen.
WAKE UP MAX!!
!Nascar has got it right.
WRC has got it right.
Motogp has got it right.
V8 Supercars has got it right.
A1GP has got it right
The bloody kids in my suburb have got it right with their soapbox/trolley races.

You have reached the answering service of Max. I'm sorry Max isn't in at the moment, he is annexing something or other. But rest assured your opinion is important to him - he's doing a survey! - your opinion will be put in a special recepticle with all the opinions of F1 drivers, manufacturers, team principles, sponsors, engine manufacturers, circuit owners, host nations and anybody else that cares about F1 racing and will be ritualistically burned in accordance with the rules and regulations pertaining to the introduction of any rules and regulations that Max hasn't thought up. With the exception that is of his fiend and concubine Bernie. Thank you again for your interest in F1, the needs of spectators are always uppermost in Max's mind and will be for the foreseeable future not that F1 has one.

The thing is that as aerodynamic evolution goes in F1, it is hard to create overtaking opportunities. BTW in GP2 and A1 its not that many passes on the track either which has to bring up the question for a systematic change.

Max is not necessarily to blame here, as there have been some good steps over the years - flat undersides of the cars, higher levels of these, higher and smaller wings, less wide chassis, less wide and profiled tyres, less electronics, better track layouts, mixing up qualifying, 10 place penalties etc., etc.

I havent really heard a realistic approach from any of the constructors so it might just not be that easy.

Obviously these points would help:

LESS DOWNFORCE

HARDER TYRES

MAX. 1 PITSTOP WITH FUEL ADDED

On the other hand you(and the constructors) want F1 to remain the pinnacle of engineering as well as motorsport.

I hope something changes towards more fighting on the track but I wouldnt dream of the amount of overtaking as it is in MOTOGP, where it is absolutely inflated and almost meaningless - did you ever hear anyone talking about VALENTINO passing his opponent at a particular GP unless it was the WINNING PASS? Me neither because its nothing to write home about, it still takes some skill but it is comparatively easy to go by in MOTOGP for the top pilots.

But I remember well a few manoeuvres of this season particularly in MONACO(strange isnt it?) and altogether its quite an exciting season.
So lets hope for better but not be unfair, its not MAX whos to blame solely...

A honda F1 car just set a record of 400mph.
Throw some steel brakes, and slick tyres on the F1 cars, and we just might see some 4 wheel power slides, gutsy "stick it up the inside" passing .
Raise the minimum height and we might see some "bounce off kerb into slipstream....gunna get you next corner' stuff
The bloody things are just overgrown go-karts

Unacceptable and gratuitous comments about overtaking in MotoGP being meaningless and comparatively easy are unacceptable :x
I suggest you get a motorbike, go to mugello and try overtaking someone in the breaking zone of turn one! Then if you still have your bowels intact I will listen to your comments with a more sympathetic ear.

Thats because everybody rants about how impossible it is to pass in Monaco that when somebody does make a pass, everybody remembes it...

And your comments about MotoGP.....I disagree with you completely, to say it is:
absolutely inflated and almost meaningless - did you ever hear anyone talking about VALENTINO passing his opponent at a particular GP unless it was the WINNING PASS? Me neither because its nothing to write home about, it still takes some skill but it is comparatively easy to go by in MOTOGP for the top pilots.

How can you say that? It keeps it exciting, you dont actually know who is going to clinch it because most of the time there are three or four riders all in contention..........keeps you on the edge of your seat kind of stuff....

Comparitevly easy????? Comparitively Easy?????

Have you ever tried to pass someone into a hairpin slowing down from 330kph on only two wheels?? Have you ever dived up the inside of someone through a corner that has an apex speed of +/- 180kph, just hoping that they are going to realize you are there and not send you both into the gravel??
Even the top boys dont find it easy, If you manage to make an easy pass, then the other guy obviously gave you so much room you could park a bus in there.....

Like snowy said.....you do it and get back to me...

F1greyhound seldom replies to a post here   Suggesting a ride on a motorbike around Mugello is a big big ask Snowy

It may be easier to ask Ferrari to enter MotoGP then F1greyhound will be all song and dance

All they have to do is put a serious reduction on aerodynamic grip and return to mechanical grip. The time will come though. We are already on the verge of a return to slick tyres. The reduction in costs should come from aero reduction rather than engine freezing, which in my opinion goes against the principle of the sport. I think paddle shifting and pit stops should stay, but penalties for an engine change is wrong. F1 is the pinnicle of motorsport, whose technology should trickle down to the motor industry. This means engines and engine development, not aero development. If we return to mechanical grip, then we will see more wheel banging racing...
