He made a point of stating in the press conference that he deliberately dropped back to protect his engine from over heating, however the times I saw on the live timing didn't reflect that. It looked liked Lewis was a tad quicker but suffered from coming upon backmarkers first and he made one or two errors that cost him time.
:rap:
I am pretty sure if Nick hadn't been there we would have had a much better idea of the gap between MacLaren and Ferrari however I estimate it to be about .5 of a sec but no more than that. It is gonna take MacLaren a while to catch up and they are going to have to find an answer to BMW beating them into turn one else they'll loose a heap of points! :maths:

P.S. If Lewis still hasn't made an impression upon you  then you might want to check you're still breathing
Will have to agree with you on this one Snowy

People in the UK will soon be saying "Jenson who??????"

LH was unlucky with the timing of his second stop, losing a couple of seconds on the way in to the pits and getting caught behind slower traffic after his second stop played right into Alonso's hands. :ta:

Methinks Alonso is going to have those hands full this season, not only with the likes of KR, FM, NH and the other teams, but a real threat from his team mate.
Now let us see if uncle Ron really lets his guys fight for it :knight: :sling:
I'm in shape

Well this race answered my question about why Honda opted for that goofy paint scheme: they didn't want anyone to think the cars Jense & Rubinho were driving were Hondas! As to "drive of the day" I am always amused by that question; reminds me of 'moral victories' --which is what losers list on their resumes. Coulda/Shoulda/Woulda are all safe descriptors since they, by definition, describe conditions contrary to fact. The winner was Kimi. Of course, given his laconic style of speech (the very antithesis of his driving style) he'll never be considered the driver of the day. Even if he wins more than half the races this year, many will attribute that to his machine.

What was interesting, besides Kimi's funny dismissal of his temporary boredom leading to a tiny off (reminds me of Michael's spin at Indy) was Lewis Hamilton's skill and cool AND Fernando's gamesmanship; if he keeps it up (I mean the Spaniard), he'll start getting compared to Michael, too!

Williams in the points. WILLIAMS in the points!!
Well, THAT only happened to mess with my pole 'n 8 score; I doubt it will be repeated.

The Renaults will slowly fall back; poor Fisi won't be able to perform Fernando's magic and now that Ron Dennis has figured out how to keep his merc's running the first four slots will be pretty much red n white n silver from here on out. (Hoorah! by the by; this will have to be a happy year for me since my two favorite teams are McLaren & Ferrari.)

Poor ol' Jense... one can't help believe he's being punished by the Gods for his seat jumping, can one? The only question left now is: 'Will there ever be another win?!? With Young Lewis and the Pole getting better and better, it's going to be harder than ever for J B to find a seat in any sort of competitive car.

RBR look like RBR in NASCAR --where their Japanese machine is dismissed as a "rice burner." And if it weren't for Honda's excellent record in F1, I might be tempted to apply the same label their F1 efforts this year. On the other hand, by going backwards they might end up encouraging Toyota to throw even more money away!

Why, by the by, can't the deepest pockets in the paddock (as the commentators remarked of Toyota) find anyone --I mean ANYONE!!-- to deliver them results? Maybe it's some kind of corporate drama being acted out on the world stage: someone getting even with his rival by convincing him to lend a couple of engine blocks to a poor little independent recently badly treated by BMW & Cosworth.
Heh Heh. Little does the head of Toyota Racing know that all he's buying with all his yen is the racing equivalent of a lotto ticket. At this point, if I had his ear, I'd encourage him to put Eddie in charge of his team; I miss that beautiful yellow paint scheme.

Good race. Great fun. Glad to be back!

I reckon Kovi has two more races to get his act together.
That was a woeful performance, and Briatore is less than impressed.
Fisi didn't get any pats on the back either.

I wouldnt say it was an overly exciting race. Pretty impressed by LEWIS, much less by HEIKKI. However it is far easier to do it right in a good package and the RENAULT wasnt that great today. FERNANDO did very well to consolidate his No.1 position within the team. KIMI is my personal driver of the day because he was smooth as silk, plus clocking the fastest lap by a full second. FELIPE did all he could and credit to him. With NICK, I simply believe he doesnt have the self-confidence to get the max out of his package, he is very good if not excellent but he lacks killer instinct - it wont be easy for BMW to decide after this season who shall be replaced by SEBASTIAN, but it will be an essential move. NICO was probably as good as anything today just like in last years BAHRAIN GP and I would hope for WILLIAMS to get right there with their package as they definitely have the drivers to go to the top. TOYOTA surprised but they are actually weaker than last year, poor RALF having to drive perferctly for a single point. I know its hard but I think that JARNO should have been replaced...Not sure if MARK was really driving well, ok he had some problems but..? DAVID made a very rare capital error - nerves? The SUPER AGURI are a very positive surprise and they are another proof its not all about budget and ressources...

Looking forward to SEPANG, expecting a better race....

I was hoping for a more exciting race but it wasn't bad. If Alonso did a better start then it would have been closer but I doubt that he would have really threatened Kimi.

So Ferrari were the fastest but McLaren aren't that far behind particularly with Alonso. What is worrying is that no other team appears to be close, Heidfeld was way behind and Fisichella was way way behind!

At least behind those teams, everyone else seems to be close!

Kimi drove an easy race, he was never under pressure and the car held together. He did a good job.

Alonso managed his dissapointing start very well, he kept his calm and didn't panic and looked for the right oppurtunity to get past Hamilton which he executed perfectly and then went on and built a 10 second gap. He clearly would have been much closer to Raikkonen had he not been held up but I think the end result would have been the same. 8 points.

Young Hamilton is mighty impressive, he reminds me of Villeneuve in his debut race for Williams in 96. Even though Hamilton held up Alonso, it was his right and he handled it very well. Just a few mistakes but that is OK. All weekend he has been very close to Alonso and that makes me very excited. The 2 will push each other and it will be great.

Heidfeld was low on fuel and Kubica got ahead of him, that was impressive too. Too bad he retired.

Fisichella, well, that's were he normally finishes, i.e This is Renault minus Alonso

Massa did well to recover from the back, pity we didn't see the 2 Ferraris fight. I think reliability is an issue for them.

Rosberg impressed. He finished in the points for Williams who were pretty much written off!

Kovalainen was very dissapointing! Webber's impressive qualifying got lost in the race and spinning going into the pits, what was that all about ? (at least he didn't smash it into the wall like Coulthard did a few years ago!!!)

Drivers of the day to me were Alonso, Hamilton and Rosberg

Can't wait until Malaysia!

Question: Were we supposed to have a closer field with the new rules and freezes ? But most of the field was lapped !!
I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

Jim, punishment from the Gods??!? JB is done. Lewis Hamilton has become the top Brit in just one race. Why? Because JensoButane has no idea why he one that one race he did win. No, I don't suspect there will be any more wins for Button.

This is a shame. Jenson Button has a driving style that is wonderful to watch. He drives a bit like Nigel Mansell when he is on, except at a similar stage in his career, Mansell was always on the pointy end of the field in most races. I can't see him outdriving Alonso, Raikkonen, or even Felipe Massa, who just missed out as my driver of the day to Hamilton (to get a podium in your maiden F1 race is something especially since the McLaren is not obviously the car to beat.).

Your points are good although I believe you are judging Heidfeld a bit harshly. Nick is quietly getting the job done, while others are floundering.

DC actually performed one of the most exciting promo moves during this GP......GIVES YOU WINGS :-))

A reminder of JAQUES` UNlucky STRIKE a few years ago...:-((

However DAVID actually made a capital error while JAQUES only had a true race accident.

Dont think LEWIS can be classified as the best Brit after the one GP - what would have happened had JENSON and him switched packages?? I for one am pretty sure JENSON is Champ material and he would have challenged FERNANDO. Dont get me wrong, as I said LEWIS was impressive, just dont like a good guy to get written off so easily:-)

Dont blame FISICO too harshly, look at HEIKKI and judge the guys on the package.

NICK actually was always going to finish in front of ROBERT(one more stop to do), who was on a better strategy.
