Either that, or everyone decided to sandbag today.....

I still can't believe the speeds were off that much from practice......then again, one forgets that many of the drivers were talkin' about getting some major tows' from other cars going down the front/back-straights at Indy on Thursday/Friday(getting into the draft, or slipstream, of the car ahead of you on an oval generally will add about 1-2 mph in speed to your lap....   )

Brickyard Rumor Mill..........

Post by mlittle » Sun May 13, 2007 2:14 pm

Walking around the paddock today, some interesting rumors and other musings floated by..........

~~Third entry for Aguri-Panther Racing? Spotted former CART and NASCAR driver John Andretti talking to Doug Boles of Aguri-Panther Racing; rumor has it that if sponsorship can be found, they'll run Andretti in a third Aguri-Panther Racing entry for the second week of qualifications; if they can, expect Team Australia to provide engineers and pitcrews to Aguri-Panther(their shops are right next to each other and Derrick Walker and John Barnes have been friends for years.....)

~~ChampCar team on the way back? In 2003, then-MiJack/Conquest Racing moved from the IRL to ChampCar......Conquest Racing owner Eric Bachelart, who's also run teams in the Atlantic Championship and the former Dayton Indy Lights series, was seen talking with AGR VP-Operations John Lopes(before joining Andretti-Green Racing, Lopes was CART/ChampCar's VP-Operations.....  ). Currently, Bachelart is 50-50 as to whether he;ll even stay in ChampCar for the remainder of 2007

~~Major kudos to ABC/ESPN for the high-definition broadcasts of today's qualifications at the Brickyard.....53 cameras are being used for the broadcasts and no complaints could be found from anyone 8)

Nope; no rain...............still wonderin' why the times seem to be slower than everyone thought; at least there's one irony, though.......unlike last year, where 215-216 was the bump speed to get into the field, you'll need a 4-lapper in the 219-220 mph to make it in

Firestone's brought a pretty darn' reliable compound for the 500(same compound they used at Motegi and Homestead) so the tires aren't a problem; no one's had any complaints about 'em so far this month.
