Do you mean the best F1 drivers in the world, or the best drivers in the world. I am sure there are a lot of drivers out there who never got the chance, or chose a different rasing genre like WRC. Wouldn't want to leave them out.
I sort of mean both..

Thing is that any driver entereing F1 need a full season to get to full grips with what it's all about. Having said that I am aware that there some very very good drivers that never got the chance.

But drivers never getting the chance and being among the top-5 drives in the world, there are very very very few of. I can think of exactly one such driver while typing this.

There is a Japanese driver, and out of respect for him I am not even thinking of trying to post his name, who every year wanders down to the South Island of NZ, and blasts his vehicle to the top of a hillclimb
On a Dirt/stone covered road he goes thru a a gear change every couple of seconds while dealing with similar BHP at the rear wheels to anF1 car.
Southernman! Help! They will not believe me

On that subject there was a sound track of a driver (F1?) driving a ferrari(?) up a euro hill climb and making many, many gear changes while posting a time that stood for a long time. The gear changes were necessary to keep the thing in its torque curve, and were occuringg at something like 1.75 secs all the way up.ie Blat, silence, blat, silence, blat silence, etc, I heard it a long time ago, and would love to hear it again

It rings a (faint) bell with me, I would guess somewhen between 1985 and 1990 - And was at "Goodwood" (is that where thay have huge deal every year??).

Driver was as far as I recall one of the regular F1 drivers, so could have been Alboreta.. He of immaculate gearshifts...

Smooooooothhhhhhh....

Someone must investigate and advise.

There is no seat available at Minardi, no matter how many megaabucks he can bring ( unless the megabucks include a full size wind tunnel, two top designers , three top level drivers, Danica Patrick and a bloody good tea lady) Kappy! Who deserves the seat, Narain or the other guy :?: :?: :?:
Too early to say,but looking at the result of past 3 races, its the other guy who deserves the seat not Narain :(
Season is long,he will hopefully bounce back

The race that Julian was referring to is called Race to the sky. Its held at Cardrona Valley betwen Queenstown and Wanaka every easter. The race starts at 1500 ft and goes up to 5000ft and has 137 corners.

The winner drives a Suzuki Escuda.

Southernman, correct, sadly a great KIWI died reccing the race
You might have a clue to the soundtrack I am seeking, a ferrai, I think, being flogged up a hill climb in Europe, not Britain, driven by an F1 driver, or ex.,
Pure music, hundreds of gear changes (narrow torque band), blatgapbaltgapblatgap etc, I recall the driver had a blister the size of a quail egg on the palm of his hand afterwards, but cannot remember anything else, which is to be expected if you drink to forget, um what was I saying, and why?
NZud being the haven it is, it may exist there,!!!!! in fact that is where I first heard it, ( damn That was a live brain cell, come back, cell,I need you for a moment)
