!
Thanks for the archival stats; when I showed them to my Cosworth friend (along with DC's troublingly UNflashy run at Jerez yesterday, he hung his head and muttered something about "not giving anything away to the opposition this early ... and test times don't mean anything anyway. Remember how good Honda has looked in tests in the past!"
On the other hand Michael's working yesterday shows that what he said about wanting to get back to work ASAP was not just talk.
I don't think Fisi was talking the [Renault] party line when he said it's not about fast times; he's too forthcoming to bother with that kind of "psyching out" his opponents (which, I have to admit, Michael, for one, ISN'T!). I would say, to offer a balm to Jay Vee's spirits, "It's only day one and Ferrari is not running the same tyres as Renault, remember (it is COLD at Jerez) and, anyway, Fernando wasn't behind the wheel was he?"
Again, thanks to Jay Vee for the stats about Renault (I forgot how good their F1 record is ... or never admitted it to myself!). In mitigation, all I can say is that my experience, first hand with Renault is an echo of that with Jaguar: namely that one could only motor securely when a van and a mechanic were following one. Maybe it's the same phenomenon I learned on visiting Scotland and being introduced the genuine Scotch Whiskey. When I asked my host why I'd never tasted anything remotely as beautiful as what he'd just given me (WITHOUT ice) in a tumbler, he replied, "We dinnae ship anything worth drinking."
Now, what about the yellow Mac? I wish I knew what THAT was supposed to suggest. And I'm terribly disappointed (tho not surprised) to learn that Kimi's shopping for an 07 ride. I earnestly hope that Ron can find the cash to keep BOTH Kimi and Fernando on the team next year. After all, I'm a RACE fan before I'm a race CAR fan! And if Kimi goes to Ferrari, we know that his mate won't be anyone in the front ranks, don't we?
Ciao F1 fiends (and friends)

You mean you want to pick up those years when Ferrari was dominant
Well let me tell you, the most relevant in technological terms is last year and you know the stat

Well if you are going recent history, how many engineers will still be employed by Renault from the eighties and nineties? You were using the stats to say what you wanted to say, fair enough. But I was genuinly interested in the stats for the last 10 years. Hell if you start from 1995 when Renault was dominating I am sure it will not be too bad. Wasn't Schuy driving a car powered by Renault then? The thought must send shivers up you spine.

No worries Jim, glad that some find the stats useful and not ask for specific manipulative date ranges
DC ?? The guy in the cooking Red Bull ? Sounds like the Ferrari engine doesn't handle the heat very well. Newey will have a hard season!
I've heard of a few Renault lemons but they've also made a few classics as well and of the latest crop the Clio and Megane are top class
I don't like the orange (or as you call it the yellow) McLaren but you'll get used to it. This will be a building year for McLaren
I too hope to see Alonso thrash Raikkonen in the same car
Check the test times from Alonso tomorrow

If Bernie, Pierre, Pat and Ross are anything to go by then the Renault F1 engine department still has many people from the mid 90's
For your Genuine interest here are some more stats:
1995 - 2005
Engine Races Wins Ratio
Ferrari 186 79 42.47%
Renault 136 47 34.56%
But since I am the one digging these stats up, here is something for MY Genuine interest:
1992 - 1997
Engine Races Wins Ratio
Renault 98 64 65.31%
Ferrari 98 10 10.20%
Haven't actually checked but any other engine manufacturer ever got a better win ratio over such a long period ?

He was, rah. Granted, the team was(if I'm not mistaken) known as Benetton-Renault, but Schuey was driving for Renault then.

Lol if you looked back and started in the mid eighties to 97 I am sure you would see Ferrari's percentage get lower and lower. Bad times for them.

Now now mate, there is no need to get jealous. I know you two are married and the last thing I would want to do is get between you. Besides, I may be younger than you, but I am older than that spanish dude with the bad haircut. Too old I would say.

No he was driving for Benetton which was powered by the most successful engine
It doesn't matter who he drives for, I don't have much respect for him since his crashes with Hill and Villeneuve.
And I don't have much respect for the current Ferrari policy of having a single driver team (which probably has something to do with some conditions set by Michael)

At least I was right when I said he was driving for Benetton.

Super Aguri is in (according to F1 racing)

Thanks Julian,
Yes the FIA have confirmed the acceptance of Super Aguri's late entry into the 2006 F1 Championship. The FIA statement read:
Following receipt of the necessary financial guarantee and with the unanimous support of the competing teams, the FIA has accepted the late entry of the Super Aguri F1 Team to the 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship.
Super Aguri have yet to announced their driver lineup or the chassis they will be using although it is believed to be the 2002 Arrows A23 modified to the 2006 regulations.
