I usually agree with a lot of JayVee's comments, but switching to Kovalainen using the the logic you suggest makes no sense.
We saw what Fernando Alonso could do in a underpowered/underfinanced team in race conditions. We saw the same with Mark Webber. Kovalainen coming into a top team is a huge risk for the team, because it is one thing to be fast in practice and another thing to win races! Just ask Raikkonen.
Now before you think I'm totally cracked, look at the careers of Kimi Raikkonen, Jenson Button, David Coulthard, Jan Magnussen, or Martin Brundle. All of these guys were supposed to do what Fernando Alonso has done. All came straight into a top team. I don't doubt that in about 2 years time, we will be talking about Kovalainen, Nico Rosberg, Nelson A. Piquet, Lewis Hamilton, and Frank Montagny like we do Alonso, Schumacher, and Fisico, but Briatore and Renault are going to keep Fisico [because he can win and knows the car] and add either Mark Webber or Raikkonen if they can get him. At best, Kovalainen is the third option, and Briatore is not scared to put a rookie in the hot seat, but he like winning too.
Think about what I'm saying before you comment.
