 Depends on your point of view: It doesn't necessarily have to be the one who won the race. Which one do you deem more successful; a driver who starts #1 and wins or another who starts #22 and finishes #2... Otherwise why would we have a vote in the first place?

Fair enough BUT did anyone start 22 and finish 2nd. Not that I saw. Who drove the best race in THIS race. Massa by an absolute street!!!!

FA started 3rd and finished 2nd. Not exactly a barn storming performance. He did drive well but to make up 1 place and not even come close to Massa, there performances are not even in the same ball park.

To say Renault's performance was inferior in this race is stupid. Both Renaults qualified 3rd & 4th not exactly the stuff of a mid-field team. Make no mistake Ferrari had the best package but Renault were clearly the 2nd best. If a Williams,Toyota, BMW etc etc had done what FA managed you could perhaps justify voting for them BUT the Renaults aren't.

Massa's performance was faultless.

True. However if I will end up being a loser I'd rather be #1 :) Some current F1 drivers should find it easy to relate to that.

I've noticed that JayVee has her FA blinkers on again and voted him driver of the day!!!

Sorry JV, but you are getting a little bit ridiculous. I am an unabated Webber fan BUT you have to acknowledge that sometimes other have better days.

I give FA credit though he probably drove the 2nd best race of the day. It was good work getting by MS and he did a good job holding MS back as MS was quicker than him.

In this case, anyone who votes for anyone other than Massa is an out and out IDIOT and should be booted from the F1 Idiots group for extreme idiocy. What more does a bloke have to do? Pole, Fastest Laps & wins the race. Add to that he was challenge by MS & FA for the odd moment here and there but BLEW them both away!!!! Me thinks Massa had not only a perfect race but a perfect weekend.

I don't care who you support or cheer for the fact that you could actually believe that FA drove a better race than Massa de-values everything you post.

And JV you are better than that!!!!
Bundy, while I respect your point of view, I object to calling anyone who didn't vote for Massa and out and out IDIOT. Why don't you tell Ed that their should only be one option for driver of the day

I am sure many would vote for Massa as driver of the day but to me he wasn't and I am not the only one, there appears to be a few voting for Alonso as well.

I have voted for the driver that in my opinion had the best drive and that was Alonso. Particularly in the second stint he matched both Ferraris even though his car was slower (more on inferior later!).
Massa drove a great race however it was relatively easy. He started from Pole led all the way and won.
In my opinion as well as many others, had not Alonso held onto second Massa would not have been allowed to win with Michael behind him and so in a way the great drive by Alonso contributed to Massa's win.

Alonso had to drive perfectly in the second stint to maintain a gap to Michael and was under constant pressure for the last 15 laps.
Alonso's performance in Turkey to me was even better than his performance in Imola last year. At Imola it is nearly impossible to overtake, on this one it is relatively easy yet Michael couldn't pass.
That is why I voted for him driver of the day. And yes he is one of my favourite drivers but if he drove a poor race I wouldn't vote for him. (Indianapolis this year was an example)

By your own admission you described Alonso's drive as 2nd best on the day, I would say Massa's drive was 2nd best on the day. The difference isn't much and doesn't warrant calling me an out and out IDIOT and that my posts are now "de-valued"

Rather than ridicule other people's posts try to enjoy Massa's first win!
I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

When the Renault is described inferior I don't think it is compared against a Red Bull or a Williams, obvoiusly it is compared against the car it is fighting against and that is the Ferrari.

Again by your own admission, the Ferrari had the best package and that makes the Renault inferior to the Ferrari and makes your statement sound stupid!

Alonso produced a drive that managed to stay ahead of Michael despite being in the second best car ? (inferior to Ferrari  ).

MICHAEL in the end definitely lost the race in the pits during the SC, everybody knows that except those who dont want to. The crew expected him of course to pass FERNANDO later which never happened. But not because MICHAEL was too slow, as a matter of fact he set some quickest laps as has been documented. He made one "error" when he went wide in a turn many of his colleagues went wide too, some of them crashing out, incl. TONIO who produced the SC situation. Mind you, these guys are all going on a tiny limit and obviously MICHAEL had a problem with his tyres in that phase. He didnt throw it away though and later almost caught FERNANDO even if his car was freakishly inferior through turn 8 where MICHAEL had to shift down to keep control. Not saying he was the best in ISTANBUL but fair to say he was a shade unlucky. My credit goes to the whole FERRARI team as they didnt opt to make things hard for FELIPE and gambling to get a 1-2 which they couldnt have hoped for if they had called MICHAEL in 1st. In that case it would have ended a most certain 1-3 the other way around. FERRARI would probably have been happier with that but opted for fair play. FELIPE has to be the driver of the day and FERNANDO made no mistake and kept his chances.

The finish of the season will be most exciting but I expect "the old man" to come out tops. I also suppose he will then retire and that FERRARIs support of FELIPE is one additional proof of that.
Good Post and Good Luck

(Just a note: I think Michael went wide on turn 8 but Liuzzi spun at the end of the straight, but I agree many drivers went wide where Michael did including one who just followed the car ahead  )

in the race I watched, the commentators alluded to "something slippery at turn 8" a number of times. If two cars are line astern, and one car slides wide in something slippery, sure as god made little green apples, so will the second car......probably more so, as the driver of the second car is unsighted.
