However that comes out, Jenson is, himself, a very good chap and I'm sure it is fun to party with him. I do miss the Mansell style muscular racing. Even Kimi isn't as terrifying as the old Nige at his best!
Jenson Button is looking less like Nigel Mansell and more like Martin Brundle everyday. I read that Mansell reckons Hamilton chance of becoming WC are better.

Kimi is no Mika, either.

If it wasn't you, Jay Vee, I apologize. I only mention this because I love conspiracy theories as they apply to the red cars but to no one else.
You are so off the mark with this one Jim. (apology accepted  )

I actually said
I can start drawing up/beleiving conspiracy theories but I won't. Alonso was just unlucky the last few races. Last year, there were a few bungled stops with Fisichella. These things happen.
:D :D :D
Jim Watt wrote:I'm off to pick Fernando to win again (because JayVee still hasn't offered to pay me off to pick Michael and, consequently, jinx him). What I actually hope for is Kimi to win, Kubica to place, and Nico to show... and for Fernando to take Michael out while being passed by the red machine.

Cheerio, Jim
Please do, Alonso just went through a bad patch and will recover brilliantly this weekend.
And Alonso is a sportsman unlike Michael, he doesn't take anyone out! He is clean and all the Michael fans are just desparately hoping to see him make one dirty move so they can justify Michael's dirty actions. I'm telling you that won't happen because he is higher than that.
I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

Alonso has had a dig at Renault, saying their interest is in the Constructors Title, and not his battle with MS. He also critisized Fisi for attempting to overtake him, and went on to say he feels "alone" in his battle for the WDC.

The rumormill section of Paddocktalk.com says something along those lines.....according to the rumormill article, entitled, "F1: Renault Sabotaging Alonso's Title Hopes?" Alonso believes that Renault would rather have him and Fisichella finish 2nd and 3rd behind Schumacher so that, when Alonso goes over to McLaren, Alonso won't take the number #1 with him.

My only thought is this.......is Alonso actually accusing Renault of trying to sabotage the championship, or is the media taking Alonso's comments out of context, hoping to stir up trouble for him going into Suzuka and Interlagos? :?

This is from the man himself at the Thursday press conference

Q: Fernando, apart from the tyre issue, there were a lot of rumours this week about your bad mood; you were quoted as criticising the team, accusing them of boycotting you and I read too that you were angry with Fisichella because he couldn?t help you in a proper way. May I have some clarification about that?
FA: No, not a problem at all with anybody. I think all the rumours I think? Also there is a funny story from Germany that Fisichella was going to Michael?s party after the race and Fisichella was there and I was angry with him and the team. There are always rumours that they try to put there but there is nothing true. What I felt there is that maybe I had a problem with the car that was a specific problem for ten laps, nine, eight or whatever, and probably I felt alone, for sure. I was first and my team mate was second and they came to me, they overtook me and they were gone. And after, when I recovered the pace, they were too far (ahead), and for sure it is like you are in the Tour de France in the mountains, climbing, you have a puncture or whatever and your team and your rival has gone uphill with no stops. That was a little bit difficult to understand

and

Q: (Jon McEvoy ? The Daily Mail) Fernando, you said you felt a little bit alone ? in what way?
FA: Well, you know, I had two difficult moments this year, one in Indianapolis, where I was not competitive, and one in China, where for 10 laps I was completely off the pace and losing four seconds a lap and, you know, these two moments, maybe, in my opinion, in team play, maybe, I should have had more help.

Q: (Jon McEvoy ? The Daily Mail) How could they have helped you?
FA: I don?t know. I don?t know. I fight with Fisichella in the last corner, Turn 14, once and he overtook me and I overtook him again because he went a little bit longer and these things, these risky moments ? Three races to win the championship? your team mate is a little bit ? (It?s) not good enough, I think.

Q: (Livio Oricchio ? O Estado de Sao Paulo) We read on the internet in the last few days that Jean Todt said that he realised what are the rules of the game when Fisichella pulled the car side by side with you and Michael could not overtake you and him. And he said maybe it is not a normal manoeuvre. What do you think about it?
FA: I think he did in this lap good enough because I don?t know what he means ? Fisichella tried to overtake me and the cars (being) side by side on the straight was to overtake me, so there was not any team play ? even the opposite.

Q: (Ed Gorman ? The Times) Fernando, do you still believer that there are people within the Renault Formula One team who don?t want you to win the drivers? championship?
FA: All the team, all the people, are really focussed for the championship and anyway we have been leading both championships all season nearly and now the last two races all the people is motivated and the atmosphere inside the team is just super and it?s the last two races of me in the team as well and every single person in the team is just focussed on the championship.

Q: (Ed Gorman ? The Times) But you did say, or appeared to say, exactly that in China ? that there were people in the team who you believed did not want you to win the drivers? championship, but that they do want to win the Constructors??
FA: No, not? For sure, for the team, (it) is more important the constructors, but they want to win them both. For sure?

There is a lot more you can read at http://www.fia.com/mediacentre/Press_In ... conf1.html

Some media people just like to highlight the negatives.

Alonso speaks his mind and tells it straight. I thought we all want that but people are weird, they will critisize someone for anything

Alonso is just too good, the team knows that to win the Constructors they need him. He will prevail :D :D

:D :D thanks, Julien, for the funny posts and the nice words. And especially thanks for reminding me it was you (& not Jay Vee) who posted the conspiracy theory (for fun). I sort of knew it wasn't her; that must be why I apologized even while I was saying it. On my bloody server, I can't look at postings while I'm typing my own, which means everything is up to my memory and at this age (Sixty-bloody-Six) I can hardly remember where I parked my car at the end of the day!

I guess you're watching young Nico more closely than I am because he's partnered with your man Webbo. And you may be right that he's getting more attention than he deserves. At any rate, it'll be fun to compare him to Kubica next year, won't it?

I'd love to see Mark on the podium, but I think his luck is even worse than Jarno Trulli's!!

and now, back to the pits (I mean home to find out when practice is being broadcast)

"See" you all at the races!

Right you are Jay Vee. Your post was completely the OPPOSITE of what I was saying. I hope you read my reply to Julien above, but if you didn't here I apologize to you before all the punters on the list. It was the tricky Julien who slipped that conspiracy theory into my ear and since I know you to be Fernando's biggest fan, I naturally twisted the attribution to you. And it wasn't Julien's fault either; I'm just a died in the wool Ferrari fanatic (as well as McLaren fan, though Ron Dennis drives me bonkers) and so I have to love Michael.

Actually, I know the whole book on Michael and what a bad sport he is supposed to be, but I think if you took all the points away from him that he earned by spearing Jacques V. [the most notorious evil deed] and parking on the Monaco circuit, he'd still have Five or Six WDC's! So his record can't ALL be a result of bad sportsmanship. And he ALWAYS thanks his mother and his father and his family and his team members and all the little people. I thought, for instance, that his genuine joy last week and his immediate sharing it with the team and his engineer spoke volumes.

But never mind. I admire your willingness to never pick him no matter what it does to your 8n'pole standing (which, however, has to be better than mine! I've fallen so far Ed's stopped posting me my standing!! Which I thank him for, sparing, as he does, my feelings.)

When I said I hoped Fernando speared Michael, I admit I was yielding to my sense of irony. But remember, I said it would only happen if Michael was passing him. If your boy can regain his early season form, that won't happen.

Enjoy the race!

Jim Watt

p.s. Hasn't this been an IDEAL season!!?? :drink:

Pretty much agree Jim, Michael would have certainly won a number of WC's even if he wasn't dirty, I remember he had a dominant car for a few years (along with team orders even Sato would have won in them   )

He was very happy in China for sure, he was (and still is) dreading wet weather and was handed the win by the Renault (due to a number of mistakes) so you'd expect him to be happy just as you will see Alonso very happy tomorrow :D

If you really have to yield to your sense of irony, you should be saying that Michael will win his 8th title by taking Alonso out only to be stripped of his points and his superlicense by the FIA a few weeks later.

But so far it has been an IDEAL season, yes!!

Can't wait for tomorrow's - delayed in Australia - race!! (at least it is school holidays :D )

PS. When you make a post, if you scroll down a bit you can see a number of earlier posts under Topic review. You can also open two browsers, you can post in one and look at your earlier posts in the other. (Just a few hints!)

I suggest the latter. The lame media is always trying to create these little soap operas in sports. The natural competition isn't enough for them. They have some pathological need to create this odd emotional element. It makes racing publications look like gossip rags.
