And the commentator (here in the U.S., we had Danny Sullivan and some other air-head do the commentary ... because U.S. fans are supposed by the networks to be so infantile, they couldn't possibly follow commentary by the folks on Speed. Who actually know something about F1) here did call it a mistake.

and I agree with you that it WAS an opening. but mistake? yes, it can be so construed, but remember, if Ralphie or Monty or JV, and probably even if MS had 'slipped the door open a crack' like that, they would have SLAMMED it right shut again ... and taken themselves and Kimi right out of the race. MW, at least, didn't do anything stupid.

except for another flaming, jamming overtaking (I think by Michael?), the race was still pretty boring, though :nap:

I mean how exciting can it be when places are determined by the engineers (ie. engine failure) rather than drivers?

Still RE30B#16's post suggests that, for him at least, Monaco is the cat's meow.

I agree with whoever it was that noted that this forum seems unforgiving of Fisi.

And Michael, I might add. And JV. And Monty. And Rubino. And even poor old JB!

(I'll not touch Takuma or Ide!!)

but we love Fernando, don't we? (Even I like Fernando. Can't wait to cheer for him next year with McLaren! It's RENAULT I can't stand. and Flavio!!)

and we love Nico. and the Webbo.

as to Kimi? neither love nor hate I'd say. Just plain AWE.

Snowy is hoping Max & Bernie will penalize the blue cars so we can have a real WDC shoot out. I'd say for that to happen all we need is for Kimi's Cosworth's to find a way to keep from exloding.

All my friends in the speed shops told me the Cossie was going to be a killer this year. I thought they meant it would kill MS and FA. I guess they meant Kimi!

ah well, on to England's pleasant pastures!

This is a pro-Webber forum, no doubt about it. If he does well you'll know straight away, if he stuffs up you hear nothing.
There are a few Button pockets here and there but the Webber fans are noisier.
Alonso  I am only starting to notice some praise for the kid. I really don't know why but I suspect it has something to do with him being younger than Webber and Button (and Raikkonen) yet has won the Championship before any of those.
Soon enough people will say F1 is boring cause Alonso is dominant. I suspect we'll hear that from the Ferrari fans first. Well I for one wouldn't mind. Afterall I've seen a single-driver team dominate for years by using team orders and preferential tyre supplier.
At least with Alonso, he doesn't get preferential treatment from his team nor does his team get preferential treatment from their tyre supplier so enjoy a fair domination :D
And next year he'll be in a McLaren and will still dominate. I wonder what people would say then ? I bet they'll just say .... boring ....
Too bad, you are missing enjoying the making of one of the best racers.
I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

Hi people..sorry i'm late for this as i was away with no net access..

An eventful race, which i couldnt see live..but a well won race by Alonso.
He knew Kimi was the only threat to his chance of winning his first Monaco GP after Michael stuffed up his qualifying.Drove the 2nd stint almost 2 sec a lap slower to preserve his rear tyres and safety car just set him for a victory, just like the doctor ordered.SC ruined not only Kimi's chances of victory(i'm 100% sure he would have overtaken Alonso with 9 laps owrth more fuel) but also ruined his car!!
How can Mclaren do this everytime.40 years,2nd oldest team on the grid,148 victories and cant bloody make a reliable car since 2004.

I pitty Webber for his non reliable car too..but i doubt he had the pace to catch Kimi or overtake Alonso ,but a ruined podium chance.

Michael drove a fantastic race starting from pits, quite liked his overtaking move on Button  . yes he benefitted for retirement, which earned him points, but that the saying for Monaco...finish first & u gets points..thats the nature of the track....Comapratively he did much better than Fisi who still finished behind him after starting from 10th...but how did Fisi get the adrenaline to overtake 4-5 cars!!!   Nice drive on the whole by him.

DC looked stupid with his superman attire on the podium, but i liked him being there..hope this keeps him in F1 next year.

Barri ruined his chances...N Montoya was just happy cruising.

For the first time in years,i want to say,i was ashamed with what Michael did in quali, deliberate or not,if it was a driver error..then i would now rate Rubens better than him & if it was deliberate than its pathetic!!....

Many thanks to all you chaps who didn't bother to embarass me further with my attribution of Cosworth power to the McLaren of Raikonnen.

I think I had Webbo's flame-out too much in mind.

On the other hand, how do we know that the Merc Badged Illmores AREN'T just "jumped up" Cozzie copies? They don't appear to have that much more HP than the Cosworth... only less reliability.

so, anyway, back to the bar for me

cheers

Kimi definitely had a drink or two, its in his nature. (and we saw him on his boat with glass in hand long before the race was over) :drink:

This should make 440, the longest thread since Indianapolis last year

Oh really  100%  Alonso made his pit stop early and fuelled a similar load to Raikkonen so where did you get this 9 laps more ? Do you have access to McLaren and Renault fuel data.
I said before, it would have been interesting but Alonso would have won. Raikkonen without the safety car may have lasted a few more laps making his exit even more dramatical!

Dont have any access to either of the fuel data, but i remember kimi's stop was approx 2.5-3 secs longer than Alonso...Alonso did a 7.3-7.5 stop whereas kimi did a 9.7-10.3 sec stop...so..if its 3 secs than 9 laps of fuel in Monaco... N i think i read Ron Dennis comments of more fuel in the car ..but doesnt matter now...more fuel or less fuel...the bloody damn car is not going to finish

:wha:

Kapel, usually you post some of the more lucid comments here, but...

Kimi looked like he was about to have Webber all over him and was not making any impression on Alonso before he retired. AND McLaren does make a reliable car...for Montoya!!! He has finished many races this season Kimi failed to finish. Right now, I am view Kimi almost like Jenson Button who is being shown up by Barrichello just like I said he would be at the beginning of the season. Sometimes you can just have a tough year, but Kimi deserves more than a little responsibilty for his situation.

He's lucky to still be tied for third place in the championship.

PS It was me who said Fisico takes to much flak on this forum.

Sorry Chris, hope i got ur name rgt.

Firstly,i meant no disrespect to Webber, but he caught up with Kimi only cos Alonso slowed down by 2-3 sec,so did Montoya.

Secondly,I've admired Montoya for long, only for his aggressive style of driving, still remember his overtaking move on Michael in his 5-6 race.
In my opinion,in F1 there's no point having a slow & reliable car.I agree Kimi is a car breaker sometimes, but he goes about his business in one way only, like Michael or Alonso..PUSH ON LIMIT!!!

I was disappointed with Montoya cos,if Kimi's car had the pace to stay in touch with Alonso, which forced Alonso to drive a conservative 2nd stint to preserve his rear tyres,Montoya should have pushed like crazy once he was in clean air after the SC period!!!This is what i expect from Montoya,it could have been a close battle, mayb not too,but its the effort by the driver to chase down the winner is what me as fan looks forward in an F1 race.

But if you travel to remote areas, you may need satellite communication. How can you afford to stay away from the forums that long particularly after qualifying   :D
Stay safe will you

Sure it doesn't matter but you were 100% sure. It seems you beleive what McLaren said, how about what Alonso said "The second stint was planned to be quite long, so I knew that the time to push was when Kimi was making his second stop, so I tried to save the tyres to give them an easy life for the first ten or 15 laps, and then push. We had a safety car period so that wasn?t the time to push but I think that thanks to the characteristics of the Monaco circuit you can control the race a little bit more. "
So Alonso beleived he would stop even later than Kimi. You're still 100% sure

PS. I think Silverstone will be a great race!!

Did you actually watch this race or did you just read about it? Kimi was losing ground to Webber in chunks then both retired. Alonso was conserving tires at the end, but was in total control of the race.
