What a wonderful video. :D I must admit that it brought tears to my eyes to see him up and about and doing so well... he is indeed a walking miracle.

Cristiano's brother posted the following back on Oct 11:
Hi all,

Thank you for the support. Now we are going througth the rehab process, which is very hard and long. But Cristiano has been teaching me how to focus and keep calm even in those most difficult moments.

He's been busy the whole day, going to physical therapy to bounce back to his athletic form, and also speech therapy to get his brain working normally. Resting well also plays a big part in his way back to full recovery.

Since last week he started to train on his stationary bike, he is doing 30 to 40-minute rides. He is also playing guitar, developing coordenation, concentration, creativity and much more, although play with his band is still to loud for him.

Most important is that his amazing spirit, personality and smile are the same. He is still a little confused but knows very well what happened to him, he is pushing very much.

Best regards!
Gustavo da Matta

From F1racing:

Da Matta almost fully recovered

30 November 2006
The racing world is delighted to hear the news that Christiano Da Matta has almost made a full recovery following his horrific crash at a champ car test on 3 August. The 33-year-old suffered a subdural hematoma when his RuSPORT car struck a deer at Road America in Elkhart Lake and was taken to hospital to undergo emergency surgery.

"I'm almost completely recovered, living a normal life and focused on my health," the Brazilian announced. "Due to the physical therapy, I can already move my arm whatever way I want, and I know I just need to work a tiny little bit on my strength."

The doctors have been impressed by his progress since being allowed to leave hospital on the 22 September.

"I'm very happy to be able to do almost all the stuff I would do normally on any given day like playing guitar, running, spinning on my stationary bike, and I really enjoy all the time I've been spending with my family, friends and my girlfriend."

According to autoracing1.com, Cristiano da Matta, in an Autosport interview, acknowledged that he will not return until 2008 at the earliest; his doctors have not yet cleared him to drive single-seaters but he has been cleared to drive go-karts. Said da Matta,
They don't want me to be exposed to any risk. They worry about how my brain would react to the slightest impact. And I'm not the one who is going to take risks after coming back from where I came from.
As long as you're making progress towards a full and complete recovery, Shorty, take as much time as you need; we'll be rooting for you.

:good: I am just pleased that he is well and living happily. I personally would not blame him if he never raced again but that is his call not mine.

He's one tough dude for sure. I wouldn't blame him either if he chose not to race anymore but he's bitten by the race-bug and I think he'll want to be back and smell the asphalt once more in the future :)
