Yeah, Hurricane Ophelia. A nice, mid-range Cat 1 that's been doing loop-de-loops out in the Atlantic off the Carolina coast. Projections are that it's headed for landfall and travel through eastern NC and back out to sea. Of course, that's what they were saying about Katrina before it crossed over Florida and took off towards the Big Easy.

It's supposed to hit the eastern third of the state, julian. That's the advantage of living a couple of hundred miles from the coast....most hurricanes(except Hugo, back in 1989) once they go inland, become weak little b------- after they leave all that warm ocean water. Then, of course, most of 'em turn around and dump tons and tons of rain on us before heading up north and making them miserable for a bit.

Mfer I would be keeping a very close, nervous eye on Hurricane Wilma.
It is now classified as the strongest storm ever recorded in your part of the world. An airforce recon aircraft has recorded sustained winds in excess of 200kmh with much stronger gusts. The fact that the eye of the storm is less than 10kms wide is ominous.

Yeah, winds are currently around 160-175 mph with the eye about 300 miles SE of Cozumel, Mexico. Currently authorities are telling people out in the Keys, get ready to leave at a moment's notice, or, as one official put it, "start writing your Social Security number on arms and legs" after the evac orders are given.
