F1 I think I can proudly boast that I was the first to praise him on the forums.
I know he is good.

Hey, I'm back from my sojourn. What a great couple of GPs. Lots of comments in between my visits so can't get back to them all but my thoughts so far.

Button on for a win as soon as Honda sort out their strategy probs. Button let down in Sepang by bad decisions and the bizarrely named Scott Speed. I think it was to do with the colour of Jenson's car - if it's silver, red or bright blue then get out of the way - it's whiteish, it could be anybody so wait for the blue flags!

Barricello - so, after all the comment on this thread about Rubens knocking Button aside, we are now supposed to wait for a lot more races to pass for Barricello to finally show his pace?...admit guys, you got it wrong! Rubens, as Brundell put it so eloquently, 'lets his head fall as soon as the going gets tough' and HE should know. And Rubens can't drive the car, because 'he's not used to it'...yeah, that's not a feeble excuse is it? Now I'm not after having a dig at Barricello, but this thread has been so off kilter regarding the Brazillian's ability as to be just silly. Button is in a different league - but I agree, Jense needs wins. And he needs to get them soon. And Snowy, it is a make or break year for Button. He's got reliability, he's got a fast car - he needs to show that little extra bit that only a great driver can bring.

Webber and Williams. I stopped supporting Williams with my normaL fervour as soon as they sacked their World champion, Damon Hill. A reprehensible, self-destructive act that put a dark stain on Hill's championship win. I think then we saw the hard, unfeeling face of Williams. It's been hard for me to support them ever since. However, I'm so pleased for the team's success so far this year. Although Webber has got his work cut out for him with Rosberg giving every impression of being the faster more dynamic driver. And it was looking like Webber had made a bad move signing up with Williams! Like Button he still has to 'prove himself' in so many people's eyes, but with how the car looks at the moment (almost the same position as Honda BAR last year), he should be getting a few podiums this year. I personally hope he does well. I just don't get all this Webber vs. Button nonsense. So what if Button gets a win first (which I think, on balance, he will do). Surely the most important thing is that it's tight at the top, which means you can't predict anything just yet. And that Button is up there in joint 2nd place in the championship!!!!!!!! It would be geat to have a British Champion again, and I for one, hope that that happens soon.

Is it really two whole weeks to wait...bugga!

"This whole Webber V button" thing came about because your man Button made some ridiculous inane comments about Webber, in a personal attack in the British media, before he (Button) wriggled off the hook and bought his way out of his Williams contract, thereby burying any hope he has of getting a drive with anybody but Honda

I see, and you buy into all that crappola then? I thought that nonsense was just part of the show. And as for no-one else but Honda wanting Button, the F1 world is a tadge fickle, or hadn't you noticed? Time will tell on that one. Heh. So what did Button say then that was sooo bad to get your little hackles all up?

Oh, not MY hackles, and don't be so bloody condescending. No, he simply upset most of the fair minded non Button slaves, by his unsporting demeanour, his boorish attitudes, and his caddish comments. I have put up with the infamous Schuey's rank behaviour on track far too long to have my hackles raised by F1's, personification of Gary Glitter.

Hi - yes, that did sound condescending, soz for that, mayo - it was not my intention to be rude - was a tadge busy returning to work. But in the best will of the world, I have to say I find it really hard to understand what you're saying!. However, you seem to be insinuating that Button or Schuie is a paedophile? Is that right? Surely not!!

Putting what you're on about to one side - personally, I like a character, someone with a bit of a gob on them. As for boorish - look to Mansel! I'd prefer the drivers to have a go at each other and would have loved to see Button marching down to Scott Speed's garage and giving it what for. And Webber is a grown up, I doubt he even cares what Button might have said or not (not that you've actually told me what he said yet - I'm still waiting). But in the end it's what is going on on the track and in the cockpit that matters. And as for unsporting, I doubt Button would have pulled half of the antics that Schuie has over the years. And if he did, he would lose my support. His contract wrangles were not his fault but his management, who he wrongly trusted. He's a young man and young men are allowed to be whatever they want to be - and, this is the crux, why shouldn't he be arrogant - he's an F1 driver! God, I can only imagine what an awful overbearing head-stuck-up-my-own-backside idiot I would have been at his age and in his position. Let's hope he is reaping the benefits, though...

And did you see Schuie after the race - looked like he was going to cry coz they didn't tell Massa ro move out of the way. Although he tried (and failed) to put a brave face on it. Marvelous.

Once again, I am not a hater of Jenson Button. He needs to perform NOW irregardless of the reasons/excuses!

There were no such thing as "race strategies" until Nelson Piquet, Bernie Ecclestone and Gordon Murray started pulling their tricks on everyone during the 1983 and 1984 championships. If you live in a world of race strategy, you can't take years to figure it out. It starts with the driver. At Ferrari, Michael Schumacher is the first person to say "this is what I think we should do to win the race." Jenson has not been impressive to me since his rookie year driving for Williams. He, quite frankly, out smarted himself with his various contracts. Fortunately, BAR's fortune began to rise just as Williams got caught asleep at the wheel.

If we were talking about say Dan Wheldon, I would say yes he will win soon, but Sunday, I told my wife that short of an engine failure or crash, Button would be behind Alonso at the end of the race, and that is what happened.

I certainly welcome being proven wrong.

Yes, very much agree. That is the difference between a great driver and a championship driver. As I've all ready stated - Button has to do better. Strategy does come from the driver but only up to a point: if he can put in some pacey laps at the right time, if he can get through traffic, strategy becomes easier. Button was very much tripped up by the traffic on Sunday, but Alonso scythed through the back-markers - hence his strategy worked better. It is very much make and break this year for Button. he has the car under him, he has to perform, but he needs that first win under his belt. We hear this talked about time and time again, but an F1 driver matures with his first win, Button needs the top step of the podium, after that we will see where he stands in the scheme of things, but he's British, he fast, he's interesting and he has my support.

And then there is Denis' love child, M'sueir Le Hamilton who will apparantly be in a McLaren "B" team next year

DC is interesting, hand bags at 1 pace in the carpark last season. Walks away from one of TK's landings.and just gets on with the job
JV is interesting.....what does that man smoke ?
Sato is interesting.......does he intend to single handedly get square for WW11 ?
Alonso is interesting....to some. But to most only when he is on the track
Nico is interesting to all the pundits.......and a lot of girls.....The new JV ?
Fisi, like the metal. mercury, is interesting.
Ralf is interesting....he has a brilliant mind......can justify almost anything.
Nick is not interesting.....til he is on the track
MW is not interesting... til he is on the track
Schuey doesn't interest me at all, until he is on the track.
Barrichello is only interesting when he is on the track
Trulli likewise.
Massa is starting to interest me....and I have posted the odd comment about his capabilities...... I have also posted that he will do as he is told....the jury is still out on that. It was fun to watch the Ferrari garage while they went thru every possible permutation to get Schuey ahead whilst not issuing team orders.......that was interesting.
But J Button, interesting ? Unless you are a litigation lawyer, or a Spice Girl looking for a double so you can slack off..who on earth would find him interesting. His greatest publicity to date is slamming into the barrier

DC was about as boring as anyone could get during his time at McClaren. Mind-numbingly so. he even didn't get excited about cartwheeling down the runway in his jet and walking away alive (not that the pilots did). It was just his anally retentive way of proving to Denis he was up for the job (Denis was never convinced - the 'brain fade' line said it all for me). DC is so much more interesting and more relaxed at Red Bull, he's great. And it's wonderful that he's having such a great couple of seasons (fingers crossed) at Red Bull.

But getting back to the Butt boy. If he's so damn uninteresting, why bother even contributing to this thread? But you feel the need to - maybe he's more intersting than you realise, heh! If he's so irrelevant, who cares what he said about Webber - but it seems to have struck a chord. I think Button causes a lot of comment, either good or bad and that's great for F1.

I love F1 and I'm pleased to see Button up there and challenging for the championship and wins. My feeling is with the spirit of the sport, and the competition on the track, as well as off! I find it quite irrelevant getting bogged down in who's popular or interesting or not. Button is an F1 driver. That's a tough gig to get. It's such a complex sport that to reduce it all down to some Soapesque popularity contest is quite ridiculous.

GREAT SPIRIT F1-NUT Youre right on Jenson......but I disagree with your colour.......may the best win, hopefully the packages of the best teams level out and then its only the driver who matters.....(and luck, I know)
