Jacques Villeneuve has signed a long term contract with NASCAR team owner Bill Davis with the possibility of racing in the Nextel Cup next season.
Villeneuve will test a Toyota Tundra Truck at Chicagoland on Monday and will make his debut race in the Craftsman Truck series on the 22nd of September. He is expected to take part in 7 truck races and possibly do one Nextel race this year.

Well I wish him luck in whatever he does but trucks?? Does that really mean trucks or is it some sort of phrase that I know nothing about?

Ya know, hearing news like this kinda chaffs us Formula 1 idiots, but Jacques Villeneuve (and Juan Montoya) are former champions in American racing, so for them to go race NASCAR Nextel Cup is not such a big deal. They have raced and won on ovals long and short, and their road course experience give them an edge at racetracks like Sonoma and Watkins Glen. It would be the same if, let's say, Tony Stewart started racing F1. He's done IndyCars and won championships, so it's not as big a leap than if Kurt or Kyle Busch wanted to race IndyCars. They would get slaughtered.Ed wrote:Jacques Villeneuve has signed a long term contract with NASCAR team owner Bill Davis with the possibility of racing in the Nextel Cup next season.

In case anyone's interested, Villeneuve makes his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut tonight at Las Vegas.......
I, for one, wish him the best of luck........it'll be a steep learning curve, but I think he'll do okay.....
