BAR has released a statement that 6 out of the "group of nine" ran a similar kinda fuel tank which were termed illegal and considered the BAR Honda cars underweight.

The stewards i guess didnt check the other teams or mayb cos their informer only informed them about BAR's

Imagine nearly the entire grid being banned for 2 races

Kapel,

The fuel tank BAR runs is not illegal.

Running a similar fuel system doesn't automatically mean that a car is illegal. As long as the car is above the minimum weight (without fuel) then it is legal. (According to the latest ruling by the Court of Appeal)

We don't know if others at San Marino were underweight and we'll never know but for sure no one would have been at Spain

Too Harsh on BAR

I dont think that bar should have been penalized like that......i mean, their car was still above the weight limit when it finished, so therefore there was no advantage, if they had been running without the extra fuel and found to be underweight, then fine...but they weighed the same as the other cars at the finish.........therefore, i dont think they should have been penalized.....specially poor Sato

:welcome:
the problem is not the weight at the finish, but the weight at every second of the race... they COULD be light just before each pit-stop...
there were a misinterpretation of the rules, of what could be used as ballast...

but he didnt seem to have an advantage, the only time that button ever seemed fast was after his first stop......... I still think it was unfair.

The team proved that the weight of the car never dropped below 600kg at any stage. Still the FIA penalised them.

I am certain (IMHO) that the GPWC/FIA fight is a major reason why the penalty was so harsh.

Want me to go even further, well having one less competitive team out for 2 races could help a struggling team gain a bit of ground. (Again IMHO)
Luckily it didn't work in Spain and hopefully it won't in Monaco

Studying the BAR statement, the FIA penalty is absolutely wrong, not only from a sporting view. In BARs case I wouldnt hesitate for a fraction of a second to take legal action - would be surprised now, if they didnt.

K-D, sorry but you were wrong...

BAR Honda have issued a statement today in which the team recognised that it was understood by the other teams that an F1 car needs to be 600kg when completely empty of fuel.
B?A?R Honda now accept that Formula One cars must always weigh more than 600kg when completely empty of fuel and that this applies even if the car's fuel system is such that some of the fuel in the car is unusable.
It was the team's honest belief that fuel which could not be used during the race did not have to be removed before the car was weighed
The statement also accepted the FIA Court of Appeal decision and described it as fair
B?A?R Honda accept the decision of the FIA Court of Appeal as fair in the circumstances and recognise that the judges in this, as in other cases, are fully independent, being lawyers and professional judges of high standing who give their service on a voluntary basis

After Reading these comments for BAR,do one actually feel that they misintrepeted the rules???  I doubt it though, mayb they were exploiting the rules.

Or are these statements made in some kinda pressure from FIA??? :?

By the sound of it, it looks like Honda got a very serious warning behind the scenes from someone very high at the FIA

I am starting to doubt that GPWC will actually eventuate. I hope it does but if teams like Honda do such a backflip, I can imagine all of them signing a new Concorde agreement very soon!

I think there is simply too much money involved to risk being expelled

Sad reliality
