Button was very much tripped up by the traffic on Sunday, but Alonso scythed through the back-markers - hence his strategy worked better.
Too much of the time Jens gets tripped up by the traffic. Alonso seems to always scythe throught it-- just like Schumacher, Nelson Piquet, Senna, Mansell (well, occassionally he would get tripped up but not for a lack of trying). And herein lies the point: Jens needs to get on with it now! He has the talent. He has a car finally.

For crying out loud, out of sheer motivation (and a little help from the elements), Ayrton Senna almost beat Alain Prost at Monaco driving an upgraded '83 Toleman in 1984 as a rookie. Prost was driving the all-conquering McLaren MP4 with a 950bhp TAG/Porsche engine. Right behid him ready to pass as well was Stefan Bellof in a Tyrell with a 450bhp Cosworth DFV!! These guy were being very opportunistic to say the least. :blah2:

I think JB has a terrific driving style I love to watch. He should be winning races, that's all. But it seems to me that ever since this team started, it has been one excuse after the other.

I doubt thats gonna happen..some teams will always have an upper hand in terms of machinery, its the extra-ordinary drivers that'll make the difference for the 2nd or 3rd best cars

You're right, Kapel, it's very much the drivers who can make the difference - but not so in the seasons when one manufacturer dominates (did I mention those damn red cars?). But when it's closer, driving ability shows. I definately do not agree that the driver is a passenger. We've seen the great drivers, time and time again, give drives well above the cars beneath them.

Gosh, I almost took the bait. But then I remembered the survey they did in the paddock last year at Monaco asking everyone what value they thought was most important to succeed in F1, and 'nice' came top of the list.

Arrrh, bless. That's how Schuie got where is then, by being 'nice'? And there I was thinking he was ruthless and unprincipalled in a team with those 'virtues' in abundance...doh!

No F1-NUT, MICHAEL really is NOT ruthless etc. He is a 100% racer with 100% ability. Apart from that he is one of the fairest sportsmen ever to grace F1, at all times being able to admit the skills of his competitors and always denying others to call him the best.

FERNANDO is actually very similar as was MIKA. The McLaren drivers of today are NOT comparatively sporting but nobody cares, many guys like you dislike MICHAEL for his supremacy. Its ridiculous to put his success down to the car as he was the only one except AYRTON in the last 20 years to be able to win GPs and WDCs in the 2nd or 3rd best car. MICHAEL had the best car in 4 of 14 seasons, how could he win 7 titles and GPs in every year...?

Coming back on topic, as Ive stated before watch out for JENSON, the likely winner of the 2006 Melbourne GP....

Would like to think so, we can only hope...I've not had a chance to look at practice times - how's it shaping up?

Re.MICHAEL vs. DAMON, a position keeping manoeuvre. It has been widely acclaimed that A) MICHAEL at this moment probably didnt know his car was done as it was immediately after his accident and B) it was a premature attempt by DAMON in the first place. AND C) it was MICHAELs year of total supremacy artificially cut short by desperate FIA decisions to ban him for GPs and disqualify him after the Spa victory for b0110cks. He was going to win the sason by min.30 points in the second best car.

I would agree the move against JAQUES wasnt 100% correct but again many of these passes go wrong when someone tries to dive in half on the grass and the other driver does not get punished.

If you ever drove a race you might know how hard it is to let your competitors pass. 100s of these manoeuvres happened in F1 but hardly ever got someone blamed the way MICHAEL did. AYRTON never got this bad publicity after taking out his teammate ALAIN to secure a Championship, in fact this was regarded as clever and skilled. And here it was much more evident than the MICHAEL-DAMON thing. AYRTON pulled all kinds of tricks on ALAIN and never got that bad publicity either while I heard never anyone complainig GERHARD would have been a second rate teammate letting AYRTON have all the success even though the situation was like MICHAEL-RUBENS(NELSON, JOHNNY, EDDIE).

Finally to think FERRARI would have thrown away EDDIEs WDC on MICHAELs demand is totally insane. But if it makes you feel better you can think whatever you like....

GO JENSON!!!
I don't think you really have an argument, Grey, but I've nothing to add to my previos post about Michael.

As for Button - he shocked himself with his speed in Qually. But first corner is going to be interesting. I worry the blue cars will get past him and hold him up, but having said that - it's up to the boy himself now - and what an opportunity!!

As for the Barricello Button debate on another thread...yep, I'm feeling kinda smug.
