What happened to the bad sportsman flag, and why wasn't it displayed to Alonso, when he regained his position illegally, the 1st time Webber passed him? No, JV, it is not an attack on Alonso, but the officials. Alonso only did what he could get away with  Even Button, who NEVER concedes any praise to Webber , eventually concurred with the other commentators.

Look, I would have liked Webber to be second but I am just putting a neutral view on this.

That is an interesting one but in both cases both drivers went over the kurb so as Martin said later Webber may have gained a position illegally.

But hey it was great to watch especially the second time when Alonso switches direction and gets side by side with Webber on the exit! He never gives up this Alonso

It would be good to get an official view on such (as well as JayVee's  )

Graham Ross wrote:Ok, perhaps the Williams team did stuff up but they may have not. Heidfeld was stuffed pitting behind Webber at the first stop!
Well, Webber was in front of Nick & ahead in Championship as well why shouldn't he then expect to get priority in pit strategy. He offered the best chance of success.
Graham Ross wrote:Webber also stuffed up his start again losing two place, Heidfeld didn't so the starting problem shouldn't be purely be blamed at the car.
As mentioned in his press conference he had a clutch problem.
Graham Ross wrote:And Heidfeld's pass on Alonso was much cleaner than Webbers too
Whats that got to do with anything?
They don't give extra points for clean passes.
Graham Ross wrote:Look, I would have liked Webber to be second but I am just putting a neutral view on this.
As Julian has said this is no place for neutrality....Look where it got Switzerland!!!

Webber, as the leading Wiiliams driver in the race and championship (and with no problems with his car), should expect to get priority for his 1st & 2nd pit stop. This would be expected by all drivers at all teams except for Ferrari.

Why would you give priority to your 2nd placed driver in a race?
There is no logical answer for that.
Nick wasn't quicker than Mark and Mark had not ever looked like being passed by Nick.
So why pit Nick first?
It makes no sense.
Unless you are Ferrari

Graham Ross wrote:In the end he should have enjoyed his best ever finish. He may not have another one in a while. BAR weren't there, Renault will sort out their tyres and even Ferrari will be strong at some races.

Enjoy the moment
When you are competing at the elite level , 2nd or 3rd is never acceptable but just an indication that you are not good enough yet. I'm sure he is glad to have his first podium but what could have happened if Alonso had been made to give way or had he not had a clutch problem & got a good start.

Why be happy with 3rd when your own team has robbed you of 2nd.
Why not show the world that you are pissed off, that you have such a competitive drive that 3rd won't make you happy. Copping that on the chin and saying to the world yeah that was great is the sign of someone who will never get anywhere. That person should drive at Ferrari and play 2nd fiddle to Schumacher (no offence to Rueben but why not take a drive somewhere else & have a real crack).

Someone not being happy with 2nd will never cop critism from me BUT one who meekly yields and accepts mediocrity will!!!

Sometimes our best responses are when we are angry

BUT
bundy wrote:Well, Webber was in front of Nick & ahead in Championship as well why shouldn't he then expect to get priority in pit strategy. He offered the best chance of success.
Webber did get priority. He pitted first after the safety car and last at the second pit stop. That was a priority as he qualified higher and was ahead at the safety car stage. I don't think it has anything to do with him leading the championship, that as you say only happens at Ferrari
bundy wrote:As mentioned in his press conference he had a clutch problem.
Excuses, excuses. Remember how many places he lost in Spain. Clutch too ?
bundy wrote:Whats that got to do with anything?

Of course not but and as Byron (another fellow Aussie) said Williams may have thought Heidfeld has a better chance of passing Alonso and he proved that and Webber may have learned from him how to do it. Nothing wrong with learning from your team-mate. Heidfeld is more experienced than Webber in F1.
bundy wrote:As Julian has said this is no place for neutrality....Look where it got Switzerland!!!
Why what happened to Switzerland, I haven't heard the news yet

100% agree with you here. I said he should enjoy the moment, but I didn't say he shouldn't understanding from the team what happened and putting his point accross strongly (if he feels like it), but saying things like "great for the team not so great for me" in public isn't a good sign in my opinion.

BTW: At Monaco, Williams had the same chance of success whether it was Webber or Heidfeld in front
