The FIA have released the 2006 Formula 1 World Championship Entry List.

The list has 10 teams and 17 confirmed drivers.
Several teams have changed names due to acquisitions:
BAR Honda becomes Honda Racing F1 Team
Sauber becomes BMW Sauber F1 Team
Jordan Grand Prix becomes MF1 Racing
Minardi becomes Scuderia Toro Rosso

The Japanese Super Aguri F1 team didn't make it on the list although it the team is re-applying.

Minardi/STR for sure wont be on the back of the grid with its rev limited V10...v need some1 to battle with MidlandF1

According to Honda F1 Boss Nick Fry, Super Aguri have a better than evens chance to be on the grid in time for Bahrain. All teams have to agree and given the loss of revenue, it would be a very hard task.
Stranger things have happened though!

Nuevo Minardi look like they may have the better deal from cosworth with the rev limited V10 as opposed to Williams V8. Looking forward to that one

If the restricted V10 is more powerful than the V8 then we may see Liuzzi and Speed on the podium

If that does happen, it will be because of the stupidity of the FIA. And now that they want to rev limit the V8's too, all the teams should go back to their V10s (and cut costs!!!!!!)

Been away on [family & other] business! Am hearing here in Indy that the Cosworth is going to give Merc & Ferrari fits next year, nobody seems to know anything about Renault, though.

Could you spend a minute and bring me up to date on the V-10 (limited) v. V-8 nonsense? I know that FIA publishes regulations but since the damn things are always written by lawyers I can never make head or tail of what they're actually saying!

Happy New Year (and won't it be fun all year long to listen to JPM talk about who's going to survive to fight Fernando the Cute in 08?

I am not an expert on the restricted V10 stuff and the guys here would know more but I've read that at this stage the restricted V10 is more powerful than the V8 but teams are hoping that the restriction will be further tightened so as to give the V8's an advantage.
I tell you, if last year people thought the single tyre rule and 2 race per engine rules are stupid. This one certainly beats them.
But it could be just what Ecclecstone wants to crack the US market. Imagine Scott Speed winning a race or 2 in the Minardi - sorry the Toro Rosso ??

The Renault V8 will run in the new car in just a few days and the few doubters here will be very surprised!!

The restiction is decided by the FIA and can be adjusted from time to time.

Article 5.2 of the 2006 Technical Regulation states:

Alternative engines :
For 2006 and 2007 only, the FIA reserves the right to allow any team to use an engine complying with the 2005 engine regulations, provided its maximum crankshaft rotational speed does not exceed a limit fixed from time to time by the FIA so as to ensure that such an engine will only be used by a team which does not have access to a competitive 2.4 litre V8 engine.

The FIA can allow any team to use a restricted V10 and so any team that doesn't have access to a competitive V8 engine could (in theory) use a restricted V10.
If indeed the current restriction on the V10 isn't enough, the FIA will be forced to lower the maximum RPM otherwise some teams will argue that their V8 isn't competitive and opt for their V10 units.

Kimi who is one of the top 3 couldn't rattle JPM in his first season at McLaren.
Alonso is good but he'll struggle in McLaren in the 1st year

Alonso hits the ground running. He has proved it before and will prove it again at McLaren.

But watch him dazzle this year first

Thanks, Jay Vee! What I meant was that this year, JPM will be talking pretty consistently about how his seat at MacLaren is secure and how Kimi will be the one looking for a ride. Of course that's nonsense. Ron Dennis is spot on when he says that they're in business to win, which means not merely the best cars, pit crews, racing engineers, and so on, but also the best drivers. Alonzo the Cute has made his point with considerable elan and maturity: he IS one of the best drivers on the circuit; his only real peers are Kimi and Michael.

I can't see Kimi in Maranello (though stranger things have happened) and I can't see the current Ferrari #2 moving up when Michael retires either. On the other hand, maybe Michael doesn't HAVE any retirement plans. The word is that he's working his tail off already.

I agree that it looks bad for Renault this year (I forget who said so), but it will be great fun to see if Fernando can win with less than the best machinery; he did it last year (though, of course, he was helped by the Qual. Rules --which were aimed, ironically, at Michael, but ended up hurting Kimi!-- and the terrible teething troubles the Merc engine had!)

But can he do it against fast AND reliable Macs? I doubt it, but it will be great fun to see him going head to head with Michael for the podium third step (the first two, with wearying regularity I'm afraid, will be reserved for the new Vodofone MacLaren Mercs!

I have always been fond of Fisi (like many on this list are of the Webbo), but last year put the nail in his career coffin I'm afraid. He's fast, he's a beautiful technician, but JPM will end up with more than twice his number of career victories ... and maybe, who knows, luck is always better than skill, a World Champion's trophy.
